"It’s a sign of higher comprehension and IQ," Bette pointed out.

"I’ve finished a Cube," Alice offered.

Bette paused, and turned to Tina. "Or too much time in one’s hands."

Tina broke the cookie in her hands into two. "So Helena said hi."

"When’s she coming back?" Alice inquired.

"Six weeks. She wants to be around to bring Wilson wherever he needs to go while he’s in a cast. She wants to be there when Wilson’s cast is removed. And for the first few days afterwards."

"He broke his leg?" Shane asked.

"He strained a ligament in his ankle." Tina answered.

"That doesn’t require a cast," Alice argued.

"It does when you’re Helena Peabody’s child." Tina said. She turned to Angelica. "Consider yourself lucky."

"Nah, that kid won’t have a chance to get into any kind of accident," Alice said. "Porter’s not even going to let her get out of the house."

"You’re the last to know about me and Tina." Bette said flatly, breaking Alice’s stride.

Alice turned to draw a bead on Tina. "Why was I the last one to know about you and Porter?"

"We’ve been through this," Tina reminded, glancing questioningly at Bette.

"The babysitter." Alice enunciated. "Some kid you’ve known for all of a month knew before I did."

"Actually–" Tina began to correct Alice, then realized the futility of that effort. "Go on."

"Do you not love me anymore?" Alice pleaded to Bette and Tina. "Am I that much of a burden that you would not tell me your joys and your sorrows?"

Bette and Tina glanced at each other, amused and rendered speechless by Alice’s plea. Bette glanced at Shane, who shrugged, while Tina turned to Angelica, who was wisely ignoring Alice.

"Am I–" Alice began, when she was rudely interrupted by a cellphone. "What the –"

"Shh." Tina shot her a look as she dug through her purse. She pulled out her phone. "Tina Kennard."

    "K’nard," Angelica repeated.

"Good, now can you say Porter?" Bette encouraged.

Alice shrugged hopelessly at Shane. "It’s like I don’t exist."

Shane patted her shoulder in what was supposed to be sympathetic manner. "There, there."

    Alice rolled her eyes.

"Carfeul, you keep doing that it might get stuck that way." Shane warned.

    7. It’s so good to have a story where I can actually chuckle! The thing that drew me to the L Word in the first place was the humour amongst the gang – sadly lacking in S3 – I love how you write the playfulness between the girls.
