Chapter Sixteen
Tina couldn’t explain it. She was warm and comfy, watching a movie and leaning against Jesse’s chest. His arms were strong around her and she didn’t feel like ever getting up, but something inside of her told her to, told her she had to.
“Can you pause that? I just want to check my e-mail,” she asked him since he was holding the remote.
He frowned his eyebrows. “Can’t you wait til the movie’s finished?”
“No – I really want to do it now.”
Jesse pouted and gave his best puppy-eyes. Tina almost melted – the sight was just too cute – but she couldn’t ignore the feeling.
“I promise I won’t be long.”
“…”
“I’ll bring some crisps from the kitchen,” she batted her eyelashes. Jesse kept on pouting and puppy-looking. “I’ll also bring you Mentos.”
His lip quivered, he blinked his eyes, the doubt apparent. Finally, he gave in. “Fine.”
“Thanks,” Tina jumped up after having given him a peck on his lips. She went to their bedroom and pulled her laptop on her – guess what – lap.
She put it on and drummed her fingers impatiently, waiting for the damn thing to start up. She knew she couldn’t complain, but she was just not that big on patience.
Her wallpaper – which was a Flashdance image for ages now – appeared and so did her destkop icons. She clicked her e-mail and saw she had four messages. She quickly scanned the subjects and senders. A notification of a reply on the Vintage Hollywood Forum, an offer from the fitness club that hadn’t seen her ass in three years, a personal message on a forum about books and… a message from Bette Porter. She couldn’t explain the nerves she felt upon opening it.
