Bette just stared at Tina for a second. Her words sinking in. She knew she was pregnant.
Bette, swallowed hard, feeling the morning sickness wash over her.
Bette: I guess you read all the letters. I wanted to.
Bette didnt finish, she couldnt hold it back. She threw up all over herself and Tina who was squatting down directly in front of her.
Bette: God T, Im sorry. I couldnt stop.
Tina just looked at her and burst out laughing.
Tina: I guess I dont have to ask you if you have morning sickness
Bette: *****, what a way to start the day.
Tina: come on, lets get to the bathroom and clean up.
Bette told Tina to go in first, but Tina wouldnt hear it.
Tina: Its not like weve never seen each other naked before Bette. Come on.
So Bette walked slowly into the bathroom and turned her back toward Tina to let the shower water run. She stripped out of her clothes and got in first. She closed her eyes and let the water beat down on her. Damn that dream. When would it end? She had wanted to tell Tina about her pregnancy this morning. She couldnt believe that she had stayed up all night and read the letters. Well at least she knows exactly why I decided to do this. All my thoughts, hopes and dreams were in those letters. Finally, she has read them.
Bette was so lost in thought that she had did not hear Tina get into the shower. All of a sudden she felt Tina close. Close but not touching. A heat spread through her whole body. Oh how she wanted to reach out and touch her. Discover her body all over again. But she didnt want to be the aggressor. She didnt know what Tina wanted and she needed to respect her. Without even opening her eyes she turned and got out of the shower, leaving a stunned Tina staring at the space she had been in. Tina had felt the same things Bette felt. She had wanted to touch Bette too. She was about to when Bette turned to leave. This is fucked up she thought. What the ***** am I doing? We cant just go back to the way we were. I need to think all this through and know that I really want to try again. There is a baby involved, its much more complicated now. Tina finished with her shower, dried off and went to put on her clothes from yesterday. She needed to get going soon in order to be on time for her first morning meeting.
Tina found Bette in the kitchen making breakfast.
Tina: Isnt that going to make you nauseas again?
Bette: No, its passed. I wanted to make sure you had a good meal in you for the drive back. Im really sorry about throwing up on you.and the getting out of the shower. I just didnt want to presume anything. I was going to tell you about the pregnancy this morning. I just didnt have the energy. It is pretty low from the pregnancy.
Tina: I know.
Bette: I god, what did I say? Of course you know. There is so much more I want to say to you Tina. Can I see you again?
Tina: The last 12 hours have been a whirl wind. I need time to process everything. I want you to know that I am so proud of you. Its clear youve made significant changes in your life. That took an awful lot of courage and hard work. Now Ive got to assess where I am in my life and determine what I want to do next. I will definitely get back to you on the paintings by tomorrow. As far as seeing each other again I will need time.
Tina saw the hurt in Bettes eyes when she finished. Hurting her was the last thing she wanted to do but she had to take her time and do what was best for her.
Bette: I know you need time. Work through what you need to. Ill be here. Im not going anywhere.
Tina: You really have changed Bette. The old Bette would have pushed harder, wanted me to make a decision right away. I appreciate your willingness to let me go at my own pace.
Tina moved forward and gave Bette a quick hug. She whispered into her ear: Take care of yourself and the little one. Ill be in touch.
Bette hugged Tina back and then released her. Have a safe trip.
