    Chapter 2

“Hey today is insemination day isn’t it?” Alice being Alice was bursting with excitement when she realized the significance of the day. After Alice’s loud proclamation everyone near their table turned to look at Tina. The fair skinned blonde blushed slightly and tried to quiet her boisterous friend. There was little that Alice didn’t know about Bette and Tina’s personal life. Maybe it was because she’d had an intimate relationship with Bette but for some reason Tina considered Alice her confidante, which was a bit of an oxymoron when everyone knew Alice couldn’t keep a confidence if her life depended on it.

To Bette’s consternation Tina often shared things with Alice that she didn’t talk to Bette about. Bette concluded that maybe Tina used Alice as a conduit whenever she was having difficulty communicating directly with Bette so she in turn used Alice as a source of information. Of course it didn’t take much cajoling as Alice would inevitably let things slip, usually without thought or tact.

“I really need it to work this time Al. I mean I quit my job to have this baby. It’s been months and I feel like such a failure.”

“Tina don’t talk like that. Six months isn’t that long. Some women don’t get pregnant for years even if there isn’t a problem.”

“I know Al, but doing inseminations is a lot different than trying to have a baby the conventional way. I mean when I was in college I just had to look at a guy and I got pregnant.”

“No shit? Maybe that’s what’s wrong.”

“What are you talking about Al?”

    “I’m just saying… “

“Al I’m serious. I mean I’ve gotten pregnant twice when I wasn’t even trying. Now here I am trying for the past six months and nothing. What if my having the abortion the first time caused the miscarriage the second time? Maybe now I can’t get pregnant? I never told Bette about the abortion only the miscarriage. She wants a baby so badly. What if I can’t give her a family?”

“Bette doesn’t know you had an abortion?”

“No. She knows I got pregnant in college but I only told her about the miscarriage. Don’t tell her I told you about the abortion. She won’t understand.”

    1. Thank you so much for this quick update; this is a very nice chapter, the story gives a unique background of my favorite couple, with Bette and Tina, having a successful career and an old failed relationship between Bette and Jody, and full support of Peggy; although the difficulties of pregnancy looks like your version of the beginning of the first season, however, I see here that Tina is aware of all the emotional and financial strain on Bette, but some communication problems can also be seen among them, especially when both of them use Alice as an intermediary in some issues. I’ll be waiting for a new update, maybe is too much to ask for tomorrow, but hopefully it would be soon. Thanks again

    2. Hey Bat, so excited to see you posting this story again. Just love how you take some original dialogue out of the show and use it in your stories as well as fill in some gaps the show left. Don’t think it’s wise of Tina to always confide in Alice and for Bette to use Alice as a source to find out what Tina is dealing with. Tina can’t be sure that Alice is not going to tell anybody what she was told by Tina and Bette cannot count on Alice not mixing in some of her own interpretations of what Tina told her. Looking very much forward to your next post.

    3. Communication was always their problem. I understand Tina needs to vent, but she must talk to Bette and not to Alice, especially something so important about her abortion in the past.

      Thanks for the update!
