Chapter 20
A month later
Monday morning, the Planet. Bette, Alice, Shane and Dana are having a coffee.
(Alice) So solo-parenting at the moment?
(Bette) Ah, yes. Tina’s still in New York, she’ll be back this weekend
(Alice) That’s a decent work trip, two weeks all up?
Bette raises her eyebrows and nods.
(Bette) Yes
(Dana) What’s she doing there?
Bette goes to answer and catches herself, and then glances around the table.
(Bette) I don’t really know the details, it seemed important though
Shane has a sip of coffee and looks over at her.
(Shane) Must be nice having some extra time with Angie?
Bette looks over at her and smiles.
(Bette) Yes
Later that week, New York, Tina is in her hotel room talking to Bette on her cell.
(Bette) Did Angie speak to you about going away with Jessica’s family this weekend?
(Tina nods) Yes, that sounds fine, are you OK with it?
(Bette nods) Yes, I think so. They’re going camping, Angie’s excited
Tina smiles.
(Bette) They’ll be back late Sunday, same as you
Tina smiles as she sits down on the bed.
(Tina) Well, actually, I was wondering if you had any plans on Saturday night?
Bette raises her eyebrows and smiles.
(Bette) No. No plans
Tina smiles.
(Tina) I was staying for a lunch here on Sunday that I’ve managed to reschedule
(Bette smiles) You’ll be home Saturday?
(Tina smiles) I can be. We’d have the night together, and the whole next day too. Would that work for you?
Bette gives a small laugh and nods.
(Bette) Yes, that will work for me
(Tina smiles) Great. Can I text you when I land? Meet at my place?
(Bette smiles) Sure
Friday afternoon, Tina is standing on a busy Manhattan street waiting on her driver.
(Alice) And the trip’s gone well?
(Tina nods) Very well actually, better than I’d expected
(Alice smiles) Well that’s great
Tina smiles at the driver as they approach, and she then opens the car door and steps into the backseat.
(Alice) And when do you get back?
Tina smiles broadly as she pulls the door closed behind her, failing to disguise the excitement in her voice.
(Tina) Tomorrow night

It’s funny how Tina’s casual “baby” outed their wonderful secret. :) And I had an inkling Angie was aware of her parents’ secret. I’m interested on what she observed or heard that led her to that conclusion.
What a journey these two beloved characters have taken, separately and together! It’s just heartwarming that after all the excruciating pain they went through and the shitty things they did to each other, and being with a relationship with other people, they still loved and longed for each other deeply. They’re meant to be together. They took a detour into hell in the middle portion of their journey but they’ve grown, forgiven each other and are back together as they’re meant to be. And you wrote it in such a believable way! Brava!
This is a lovely, well-written story, Katynd, and I can’t thank you enough for it, for this Sunday morning chapter-treat!❤ Enjoy the rest of the weekend and have a lovely week!❤
Great ending, I had no inkling that Angie knew anything different was going on with her moms. You got me with that one. I thought Shane knew and was just being cool so the others wouldn’t catch on. I do think I liked this version better though. It was a wonderful trip you took us on, and I loved every moment of it.
Always a pleasure to read your stories!
Was surprised that Angie already knew they were dating again and are committed to try again a relationship that will last this time.
And Alice who didn’t have a clue before Tina called Bette baby.
So now everyone knows. That’ll take lots of pressure of Tina and Bette.
And Angie telling Bette to just damn stay!! Too cute.
Thanks, great chapter.
