Chapter 20 – Shopping Monday
Bette and Tina got up at 6:30. They decided that after taking Angie to school, they would go and do some car shopping. One for Tina and one for Angie. So, they dressed in business wear so that they would command the attention of the sales person they would be dealing with.
They took Angie to school but were very careful not to tell her what they would be working on today. Tina had been researching vehicles online and had decided that she would buy a hybrid small SUV. Bette had the large SUV, and they would find a sedan for Angie which had a good safety rating. So, after dropping Angie off, they headed for a local dealership to look at vehicles and possibly purchase. Tina had decided that she would purchase a used vehicle rather than a new one. She decided that the new vehicle just was not worth the additional money. After looking at several used small SUVs, she chose a black small SUV. This one had a good maintenance record and low mileage and had never been wrecked. However, it was not a hybrid. Bette was so impressed with Tina’s selection that she suggested that they buy one of the same models for Angie. However, Angie’s vehicle would be gray.
Tina bargained with the salesman and after haggling for a half hour, she offered him $50,000 plus sales taxes, cash for both vehicles. She made the arrangements to have her bank transfer the money to the dealership and then arranged to purchase the insurance on both vehicles with all three of them as drivers on all vehicles. Bette arranged to pay the insurance premiums so that they would be insured from the time they drove the vehicles off the lot.
Bette called Shane and asked if she would be willing to store the vehicle they purchased for Angie until they were ready to present it to her. Shane was thrilled that Angie was getting her first vehicle and agreed readily. She agreed to take a cab to the dealership on Tuesday morning to drive the gray SUV back to her home. Tina and Bette would meet her there as they would be picking up Tina’s vehicle. They needed to wait until the next day so that they would have the insurance in place, the money had been confirmed and the paper work was complete.

I think our next car will be a small hybride SUV as well, good choice from Tina and i think Angie will be very happy with her car.
Bette is loaded, i know she has money but she doesn’t need to work at all. But if i had so much money i still would have continued working but less hours then i do now.
Bibi,
If you went through an extended period of time in which you did not work, and you were loaded with money, my bets are that you would fill you hours with things you would like to do but never had time nor resources. Travel, social engagements, family, friends, hobbies, community support or studying a subject you had a particular interest in. I know people who worked but then retired early and had gobs of money. Most everyone of them have said that their lives are so full, when did they ever have time to work. For me, work has three purposes: (1) to provide identity and self-worth (2) to provide a means of socialization (3) to provide funds to support basic needs and lifestyle. Once someone has the funds to support their basic needs and lifestyle, the other two provisions of work can be found in other means. There is also the expectation that everyone should work… For me, work is a means to support your life outside of work. For some work is their very identity. Those people have a great deal of difficulty when the time comes that they should retire. We are all different and we see many aspects of life differently.
As to the story? An exciting time for Angie. Her moms are both back living with her and she is getting time and attention from her parents and some experiences which may only come once in a lifetime.

There’s nothing looking at new cars !
I love that they are getting settled and moving forward and planning their future not only for themselves but for Angie as well.
I know they still have a long way to go with their talking, therapy and personal histories but they both seem to be doing that more now and moving steadily forward together.
Angie will be delighted with her new car, I hope she realises what a lucky girl she is not only having a new car but it being taxed and insured etc. for her. In the UK car insurance for teenagers is h7ndreds of pounds, in some cases up to £1,500 per year!!
How exciting for them both as well looking at buying a new home together. Personally I would wait until the office premises is found as to where to look for a home! The office location, Helena said may only take a couple of months to sort and waiting could save them time and money!
Exciting times all round!
You are right. Insurance is high for teenagers right on up until they reach age 25 especially for boys. They then get another reduction in cost when they reach age 30 or if they get married. Seems the insurance companies believe that young people settle down and stop some of their risky behaviors when they marry. And if you live in a large city like Los Angeles, well, it’s even higher. But Bette and Tina have plenty of money. Bette inherited money from her father and from Kit. Tina did very well in the last three years as an executive producer for an award-winning cable series.
As far as purchasing a new home? Bette is fine with owning two homes at the same time as they will not move until Angie finishes high school. And should the home be too far away from their work, they are planning on renting a small flat near their work to stay during the week and come home on the weekends. But they may or may not need that. The big decision is the new home. They want to secure the right place as soon as possible. Beach front property is expensive, and prices will only go up as time goes by. And if the right place were to present itself, they want to jump on that purchase right away. They look to their new jobs as temporary (lasting only for the next ten to twelve years) but their new home is permanent (lasting the rest of their lives). And if all of this could be done before they start their jobs and with a real estate agent doing all the leg work, this is an ideal time for Bette and Tina to do this.
