The Planet – Wednesday Evening: 48 Hours Before CD Release Party

Max was on a ladder adjusting the webcam in front of him.

“What about now?” he asked into his Air Pod.

“Still nothing, Max,” came the voice on the other line.

“Ok, let me check the wiring again. Hang on.”

Bette was sitting in her office going over some quarterly reports that were due on Monday. She occasionally glanced at her dual computer monitors waiting for the webcam signal to produce the live feed that Max was setting up at the Planet.

She could hear Max fumbling with the wiring and cursing under his breath trying to get it to work over the office speakerphone.

“Knock, knock, Bette.” Phyllis said hovering in the office doorway.

“Hi, Phyllis. I didn’t know anyone was left in the building.” Bette said as one of the monitors began displaying a distorted digital picture and the sound coming from the screen speakers corresponded with the video feed. “Max, I’ve got no clear picture, but it’s starting to pixelate a little so you must be close.”

“Alright.” Max’s voice filtered through the speaker.

“Is your sister excited about the show on Friday?” Phyllis asked, interested in her employee’s side project.

“We’re all excited, Phyllis. Are you and Leonard going to come to the show?”

“Leonard’s going to New York Friday morning to meet with the head honchos at some pharmaceutical company looking to jumpstart ad prep for Super Bowl Sunday, remember?”

“Oh, that’s right.”

“And Molly’s coming into town for a weekend visit.”

“Oh yeah? She must be, what a junior in college now?”

“Yes, she is.” Phyllis sighed. “My baby is all grown up now, Bette.”

Bette chuckled. “Well hey, if you want to bring her, I’ll have both of your names at the door so you won’t have to pay the cover.”

“Oh, nonsense, Bette, of course we’re more than happy to pay the cover to see your sister play. I was a big fan of hers back in the day you know. Anyway, I’ll have to check if Molly would be up for it. It’s not cool to hang with mom anymore, but who knows. I’ll let you get back to work though. Good night, Max!”
