    Chapter 21

    (Tina) So, what category of waking me up in the middle of the night is this?

    (Bette) The one where I can’t get close enough to you

    (Tina smiles) OK

    Tina pulls Bette’s arm further around her body and they hold each other close.

    (Tina) Baby, I’m not going anywhere


    Another year later

    Saturday afternoon, Bette and Tina are in their bedroom getting ready. Bette is adjusting her outfit in front of the full length mirror by the bed, and Tina is talking to her from the ensuite bathroom.

    (Tina) Did Angie talk to you about what her and Jessica are planning while she’s staying with her?

    (Bette) Ah, yes, she mentioned a few things. It all sounds very tame

    Tina raises her eyebrows as she walks back into the room.

    (Tina) Yes, it does. Very tame

    Bette sits down on the bed to put on her shoes, and looks over at her.

    (Bette) You’re worried she’s lying about what they’ll be doing?

    Tina raises her eyebrows and nods.

    (Tina) Yes, very. You’re not?

    Bette frowns and thinks for a moment.

    (Bette) Well I certainly am now

    Tina smiles at her.

    (Tina) I’ll think I’ll have another chat to Jessica’s parents, maybe ask them to keep a particularly close eye on them

    A notification comes through on both of their phones, and they both check the message and share a look. Tina smiles as she picks up her earrings from the bedside table and moves to the mirror, and Bette shakes her head as she again reads the message.

    (Bette) Remind me why we agreed to let Alice speak again?

    Tina smiles as she puts in her earrings.

    (Tina) Because it would have broken her heart if we didn’t?

    Bette sighs as she places her phone to one side.

    (Bette) Well if she does another impression of me I’m leaving

    Tina looks over at her and raises an eyebrow.

    (Tina) Baby, you’re not leaving your own wedding

    Bette thinks for a moment.

    (Bette) Well then she’s leaving

    (Tina smiles) OK

    Tina turns to face her and Bette stands from the bed. They step towards each other and smile.

    (Bette) Are you ready?

    (Tina smiles) So ready

    Bette moves her arms around her waist and Tina wraps her arms around her neck, and they both smile into a kiss.
