    Chapter 24 – Vancouver Friday

    A New Life

    Chapter 24 – Vancouver Friday

Bette and Tina decided to get up and have breakfast with Angie without going through their normal shower routine. They would shower, dress, and complete their packing after cleaning up the breakfast dishes.  This allowed them to sleep slightly later than normal.

Tina wanted to serve a big breakfast.  Bette started the coffee and offered to assist in whatever Tina needed. So, Bette was given a pint of strawberries to prep while Tina cooked the bacon. Tina then cooked the French Toast and had it ready as Angie came through the door.

Bette:  Morning Boo. Have a good run?

Angie:  It was great. Love these shoes. Oh., whoa…. French Toast!

Tina:  Yes, since this is the last one until Monday, I thought we would do it up right!  Sit down and help yourself.

Angie:  Well, I’m going in a few minutes early to meet with Allison and Lee.  We are going to try to have another session this afternoon. We want to get the first draft of Part I of our project finished next week sometime.

Bette:  Is this the Definition of Evolution?

Angie:  Yes. This part is a straight research and write part of the report. We want to get this part finished so that it will set the tone and the process for the balance of the report. It’s going to take a lot more work.

Tina:  And what are you going to use to prove evolution?

Angie:  The flu virus and flu vaccines.

    Bette:  Ingenious!

Tina:  Do you and Shane have anything planned for the weekend?

Angie:  Shane said something about going to a movie tomorrow night. I’m going to see if some of my friends can join us there for a movie.  Then maybe we can go out for a soda or something.  But if no one is able to be there, it will be just me and Shane.

Bette:  You don’t mind if Shane going with you and your friends to the movies?

Angie:  Shane and I are going to the movies. I’m going to invite my friends to join us. If they can’t, Shane and I are going to the movies. Shane invited me. I can’t ditch her for my friends. That would not be polite.

    1. Hey Martha,

Been on a trip with my wife for a few days and didn’t have time to read.

I’m mixed up, I’m glad they communicate so well and deeply and that Tina asked Bette her side of their lives these last few years. I think Bette really explained well how she looked at and felt when Tina shut her out and one just left, didn’t speak with her much and then filed for a divorce. What has me still feeling mixed is that Tina says she really doesn’t know why she shut down on Bette and left and divorced her. I can’t imagine that Tina didn’t knew what caused this, she must have felt something other than not being happy, needing space and running into another relationship. Yes, it will have something to do with her growing up, the relationship with her parents but still i found it very simple to say she has no clue as to why she broke Bette’s heart and spirit, let’s not forget she did it before when Angie was born, the leaving after Bette cheated on doesn’t really count because i can understand that but not how cruel she can be, so vindictive, so spiteful in her behavior all three times. She shut down on Bette multiple times, before Bette cheated on her she did that as well and i don’t agree to cheat on your spouse and Bette shouldn’t have done it but i saw it mainly as a cry for help, she lost a child as well and even before the miscarriage Tina shut her out and made her own decisions which she should have discussed with Bette.
Bette is not a saint, she is flawed but did always everything in her power to make Tina loved and happy.

I really hope the hypnosis sessions will give Tina clarity why she left without much a word to Bette and basically left Angie as well especially the first year, she knew Bette would be there for Angie but seriously, seeing Angie maybe four times in a year, sorry, i can’t imagine that especially if you have always said that Angie is the most important for her in her life.

Sorry, i do like Tina but it’s sometimes hard to understand her.

    2. Bibi,

That is one of the characteristics of The L Word Tina Kennard. We do not know why she makes the decisions she makes. We have little back story for Tina and therefore do not understand who she is. The fact is that the purpose of this story is to explain a little of who Tina is and why she chose to run from Bette rather than to talk with her. I hope my explanation (by the time the story finishes) will help you understand or be a little more sympathetic toward Tina. Yes, Tina really does not know why she shut Bette out and decided to run. And I think she is beginning to see why she had so little communication with Bette during the separation and divorce period. Had they had normal communications as ex’s, I believe that Tina would have come back sooner. But that did not happen. And that was Tina’s doing not Bette.

I can see why you don’t understand Tina. She’s impulsive in some ways. She is impulsive in that she acts first and thinks about it later. She is also very stubborn. Once she has made a judgement on something, there is not much that can shake her from that decision. That is why Bette could not stop her from leaving. I think that the principle in relationships which Tina tells Angie – the one who leaves the relationship has to be the one who comes back and makes amends. But one thing is for certain. Tina does love Angie, and she truly loves Bette.

In Tina’s life away from Bette and Angie, she was totally consumed with her work. Carrie was not a frequent visitor while she lived in Toronto as most would think. Even though Tina cared for Carrie, it was not a relationship of a bonded couple. Their lives were completely independent of each other with long periods of absences. My thoughts are that Tina with Carrie was similar to Tina with Henry.

I do not expect that you will fall in love with this Tina. But I hope that you will see that for Bette, this is woman she wants to be with…. with all her not so lovable characteristics and her impulsive behaviors. But this is one she chooses and has no interest in looking elsewhere. I also hope that the explanation which Bette and Tina find as the cause of Tina’s behavior satisfactory enough to believe that the future is going to be a good one.

      Thanks for reading…

    3. That was a very interesting chapter!

It was good hearing how Bette felt when Tina walked away from her.
Bette was left Angie, not knowing why Tina had upped and gone, no explanation, no time scale of when she would return, Bette holding onto the notion she would be back once she had cleared her head…..because that is what Tina told her!
It’s very hard bringing up a young child and working as well and all of a sudden all this had fallen to Bette! Bette was a marvel, she rose to the occasion and more….another thing Tina should think about…. As a mother myself, I still can’t for she life of me understand why she or how she could ever have left her child? I guess she was so mixed up but knew Angie would be better off with Bette, whilst she ‘found herself’!! And find herself she did…and a new girlfriend, and a marriage proposal………I wonder did she ever think of Bette and Angie WAITING for her to come back? I love Tina’s character and am still astonished she was turned into this person. Where was the strong, loving, problem solving, everyone’s friend Tina gone!!

At least they are now talking, sharing thoughts and feelings about now and then.

We never did get to know Tina’s back story, it’s strange it was just never mentioned !

We all have issues within us that stem back from our parents or childhood- some a good some effects, other not so good but they can effect us for our lifetime.

It was lovely hearing again, how they meet at the Gallery. How they saw and felt about each other, how they wanted to see each other again, how they both thought of the other and how nervous they were both were about it in the beginning!

      Looking forward to continuing….thankyou

Thank you for your comments. Sometime conversations take a while to get into. They take time to warm up and then to get into the core of the conversation which is covers cause and effect. Bette knows this conversation has to take place before reconciliation can occur.

Tina is more aware of what Bette and Angie went through when she left. She knows something of how hurt and lost Bette was when Tina left.

      Thanks for reading and commenting.
