Chapter 29 – Sunday of Arts, Artifacts and Gardens

Bette:  Have you reviewed the budgets and grants she sent yet?

Tina:  Yes, I did some earlier in the week. I may take my laptop with me to Toronto and do some review there if we have any downtime.

Bette:  Well, I’ll do the same. But I really hope we that if we have downtime, that we spend it on doing something other than reviewing budgets and grants.

Tina: Bette Porter, are you going to take advantage of me and being alone for a couple of days?

Bette:  Maybe… but only if you’re interested.

Tina:  Oh, I’m interested in you all right.  I can’t get enough of you.  I am addicted to your kisses, your smell, that body of yours is nothing less than that of a goddess. And I am so lucky to be back in your arms again. I’m so fortunate that you are giving me this chance to make a home and a family again with you and Angie. Lord knows, I don’t deserve you. I just love you so much.

Bette:  Tina…. I love you and it’s not a matter of what we deserve. It’s a matter of what it is that we both want.  What will make us happy?  I am most happy when I am with you and Angie.  And if I make you happy, then this is where you are meant to be.

Tina:  Oh Bette, you do make me so happy.  I was never really happy when we were apart.  When I’m with you, I feel complete, content, at peace and most of all happy.  I am so enjoying my time with you – doing our little projects, cooking, doing things with Angie, planning our future. And the fact is making love to with you is so wonderful and sleeping with you makes me feel so safe and secure, cared for and needed. We are getting closer as time goes by. Do you feel we are getting closer?

Bette:  Oh, yes.  I feel us getting closer. And I am less fearful than I was a couple weeks ago that things will just fall apart.  I am beginning to trust you again that you are being open with me.  I know that I am being as open as I can be with you. I know that we don’t have all the answers, however we do have some of the answers and that’s a good start. I am confident that we can work things out provided we just keep talking to one another and listening to one another and take whatever time it takes to work things out. If you ever think that I am not hearing you, I want you to let me know. Right now, life is pretty easy because we are together pretty much 24/7. But soon, we will both have jobs to do and pressures to contend with and others whom we will have to please. But I want you to know that you and Angie are my top priority. And if it is a choice between my job and you, I will choose you. Financially, neither of us needs to work for the rest of our lives. But I think we need to work in order to satisfy our egos a bit. We need to work to satisfy our self-identity.  But we do not need to work forever. I want my retirement years with you doing things we both enjoy without obligations except for those we choose. I hope to work at this job for about 10 years and then retire. I would like for you to consider the same time frame.

Tina:  Wow, retirement.  Yeah, I think that 10 years would be about the right time frame.  I would be retiring early at age 60 or so.  Do you think Angie will be through school by then?

Bette: Gosh I hope so, but she still may have to complete her residency or something to become a doctor.  That is if she still wants to be a doctor by then.  Her interest seems to be all over the map these days.

Tina:  Well, we will know by the time she completes her second year of college. I just want her to get into a good undergraduate school so that if she does redirect her major, that they have the course of study she wants.

Bette:  We better go check on your sauce and start the noodles.  I’ll put the salads together and get the garlic bread in the oven.

Tina:  Yes, and how about another glass of wine while we cook?

Bette:  Oh absolutely… coming right up.

They finished putting the dinner together and called Angie to the dinner table.  Angie loved Tina’s spaghetti, and she was hungry as usual.  The conversation centered on what Angie hoped to accomplish this week at Shane’s, her love of Jack and how it would be nice to have a dog.  Both Bette and Tina said absolutely not. They were starting new careers in the fall and would not have time to assist with a dog. Angie understood. A dog was simply not going to happen. She would have to make do with Shane’s dog.

After dinner, Tina and Bette did the dishes as Angie wanted to work on homework and her project. Bette and Tina decided to go to bed early as tomorrow would be an early day. They would go for their run, prepare breakfast for Angie, get their showers, get the laundry caught up, meet with Pierce and finish packing and wait for the car to take them to the airport.  They would not be in Toronto until early evening. Their work in earnest would not start until Tuesday morning.

By 9:00 o’clock Bette and Tina had said goodnight to Angie and were in bed snuggling into each other and ready for sleep.

    1. It’s so important to be aware of the history and how people fought for rights that nobody should take for granted. I have read about gay people who can be fired just because they love the same sex, it’s truly awful that there is still not equality for all the people, it shouldn’t matter who you love or that your white or black or mixed or whatever.
I always wanted to go to the USA but i don’t think I’ll feel comfortable, i follow the news and I’m really scared that when Trump wins, the USA will change dramatically and not for the best.

      • Bibi,

If you ever get the opportunity to visit America, you should. Generally, visitors are welcomed and treated well regardless of their lifestyle, heritage or beliefs. As to discrimination, I am afraid that it exists everywhere in the world. Some places more so than others. The one thing about being gay is that people do not have any particular identifying mark or characteristic which indicates that they are gay or straight or whatever. Discrimination is usually subtle and not obvious. The US has made progress toward equality through laws and the justice system at least until the most conservatives gain control of the government. The conservatives seem to want to protect the majority rather than minorities. The election here is polling close as to who may win. It is my hopes that Harris wins as another term with Trump would be disastrous for our country. But that is a personal opinion.

I think it is important for people to know history of their country and of the world. There have always been good people with good intentions and bad people with bad intentions. There have been those who wanted to control more of the world than they deserve. There are countries who give their people a greater voice in their government and those which do not. It is my hope that the world would learn to peacefully co-exist, and deal with each other honestly and fairly. But there are those who want to fair better in any deal than those they are dealing with. There are those who believe that there are those they are superior to others because of their beliefs, lifestyle, or heritage. There always has been and there always will be as far as I can tell.

        My thanks for your comment.

    2. I love how thirsty Angie is about finding out about things, always asking questions and wanting to know about history. Bette and Tina are also very knowledgeable and explain things to her beautifully but knowing Angie she will follow up on investigating on her own.

Another day spen5 together just being a family, talking together and eating together!!
Family Life at its best .

    3. Janice24,

Angie has always been a curious child. She has been exposed to a lot of different things and much of it is not in the classroom – Arts, history and science. Like her moms, she sees the beauty and the awesomeness of the world. I think that she is one of those people who will attract and keep a lot of friends around her.

Thanks for reading and commenting. You are closing in on the end of the story.
