    Chapter 3 – Lets Make a Deal

Tina:  The best that I could tell, you were very conservative on the income and very liberal with the expenses. And then you figured in a cushion of 10%. I think we are going to be fine and now we are getting this additional income. Well, I think we can relax a bit more than we planned. I think we will be able to travel whenever the notion strikes us. I think we be able to get someone in to do the housekeeping and the laundry and keep the yard up. And if we need to spend a bit more money to get the home we desire, we can without worrying about the impact on the future.

Bette:  Wow. Tina, you really did review my spreadsheet, didn’t you?

Tina:  Well, yeah.  This is my life too. I’m not diving off a cliff without knowing that there is water down there and its deep enough that I won’t die from the dive. I trust you, Bette. But there are such things as math errors, bad assumptions and bad estimates.  Seeing none of that, I saw a reasonable plan. Changing our entire lives was a diving off the cliff event. We are not as young as we use to be and we only have so many more years in our professional lives.  This is what I perceive to be our last major move. It has to be right, otherwise we will never be able to retire. And I would be very unhappy with that as our future. I want time somewhere in our future when we are not obligated to be some place and perform some service for someone else. I want us to determine what we do and when we do it. And with your plan, that is not very far into the future.

Bette:  Oh, T. I love you so much. You make me so very happy. And I want you to be happy. And I will do whatever it takes to make that happen.

Tina:  You make me very happy Babe.  And I love you more than you will ever know. And I am here with you by your side for the journey whatever it turns out to be. Like it or not, you are stuck with me, because I will never let you go. I love you Bette Kennard Potter and don’t you forget it.

    1. Collins,
Isn’t that the way life is? Lots of things going on which requires multi-tasking? My Bette and Tina are on the same page… they have been working at it for more than 20 years. They know what irritates and what soothes the other. They know they have responsibilities for their children. And most of all, they love their choices they have made in life – each other as partners, their professions, and their role as parents. This is a summer of change for these two. New professions, new home and a some what different family structure. The transition from their New York life to a life in California is full and getting Angie ready for Yale is thrown into the mix. Time is limited and what needs to be accomplished is much. And these two women will get it done…
