    (Tina) Well what are you saying? (Bette) I want to kiss you when we’re out together Tina raises her eyebrows. (Tina) That’s what you’re getting at?     (Tina) Well what are you saying?

    (Bette) I want to kiss you when we’re out together

    Tina raises her eyebrows.

    (Tina) That’s what you’re getting at?

    (Bette smiles) Yes

    Tina laughs and Bette smiles back at her.

    (Bette) Not just that though. I guess I’m not sure what you’re comfortable with, and I really haven’t wanted to overstep. I think we’re both being very careful with each other when we’re out. We don’t really touch each other at all, and I wanted to know your thoughts on that. Whether it would cross a boundary for you, if we were to

    (Tina smiles) Touch each other?

    Bette laughs and Tina smiles at her.

    (Bette) I’m putting this badly

    Tina smiles.

    (Tina) No, you’re doing great

    Bette smiles and shakes her head and Tina smiles back at her. Tina then leans forward and places her glass on the table, taking a moment to think things over. She leans back and looks to Bette.

    (Tina) You mean hand holding, kissing, generally showing that kind of affection?

    Bette shrugs.

    (Bette) Yes, put my arm around you, kiss you goodbye in the morning

    They smile at each other. Tina takes a breath and nods.

    (Tina) I think it’s OK. It wouldn’t need to complicate anything

    She shrugs.

    (Tina) I mean we’re already sleeping together. As long as it wouldn’t change what we’re doing, or expectations, or anything like that

    Bette shakes her head.

    (Bette) It wouldn’t. You’ve told me from the outset what this is, and I have no expectation of that changing

    Tina looks at her for a moment and then nods.

    (Tina) I think it’s fine

    They look back at each other for a long moment. Tina again frowns as she examines her, noticing a glint in Bette’s eyes. Tina looks away and laughs and shakes her head, and Bette smiles as she watches her. Tina turns back to her and smiles.

    (Tina) You want to kiss me right now?

    (Bette smiles) Yes

    Tina smiles at her for a moment and then slowly shifts closer to her, positioning herself close alongside her. They stop and look at each other for a long moment, both smiling. Tina raises her hand and runs her fingers through Bette’s hair as Bette reaches up and wraps her fingers lightly around Tina’s wrist. They hold each other’s gaze as they lean towards each other, closing their eyes as they meet. The kiss is soft and unhurried, and they both feel overcome as they become completely lost in the moment together.

    2. I believe that Tina is not being honest with herself. She and Bette are seeing more and more of each other and have now agreed to allow the other to express affection in public. I don’t think either one of them will be able to keep this charade up for very much longer without admitting that they both mean a lot to each other. Most women cannot keep up a continuous sexual engagements with someone without developing feelings. And the fact that they are spending time together having meals and enjoying each others company to the exclusion of others only increases the the likelihood of developing feelings of attachment. Of course one could always deny those feelings exist. But at some point, there will be a request which will cause one or the other to have to choose whether to admit they are attached or let the other go on about their lives and not see them again. So whatever this is, it is a relationship of sorts. But with everything, with each new encounter with each other and with the more time that is being spent with each other and not someone else, the more things will change form one of an arrangement to one of an attachment. And if one or the other decides that perhaps the arrangement should end and not go forward, then one or both of their hearts will be broken. The time is coming soon when they are going to have to choose. Admit to having real feelings and have a relationship which has a future or break off this arrangement so they can minimize the heart break.

      Fascinating story. What total control these two women are exhibiting on the outside. But on the inside, I bet they are a pile of mush. Thanks for the chapter… I want to read more…
