The only thing that she had right now were the results of the bullet fragments that Shane peeled off the street, they were HK45’s. But that wasn’t much. The license plate Shane caught on the SUV was stolen off a Toyota Prius in Glendale. It had been sloppy not to call in her own back up for Shane. She could have called in LAPD air support, but she hadn’t. Shit! How could she know there’d be shots fired on the street? She breathed out wearily.
Her boss had wanted this thing kept quiet, and the French government made it crystal clear that nothing about the Venus could leak. So, a high speed chase with a chopper was out of the question. It was stupid to second guess herself like this.
Tasha wondered how Tina Kennard was doing. She sniffed and shook her head. Bette Porter was a fuckin’ alpha and she had to admit that it hurt her ego a little bit to see the blonde ride off with her on the back of that bad ass bike.
But shiiiit, after seeing the way the cute blonde had looked at her, she wasn’t about to cock block.
Alice was a trip though. Tasha smirked. She was funny. But she was cute, too. What was all that talk about Porter feeling up the Venus, making her hot? And then all that stalling when she dropped her off at her car? Yeah, she was a trip.
She looked at her phone. She wanted something on the inscription before she called Porter. She figured it wouldn’t be long before the art historian had her own people decode it and Tasha didn’t want to be left in the dust again.
She would wait. But, there was something about this particular case that was making her uncomfortable.
The five women had a brunch of huevos rancheros and fresh fruit. The chatter was light between them and they laughed a lot. The private chef Bette had hired had most definitely seen something between Shane and Carmen in the kitchen. Each time she came outside her face was bright red and she couldn’t look any of them in the eye.
The morning wound down into the afternoon with the women lazing around the outdoor dining table and then Bette walked Kit out to the front entry to say goodbye. Carmen was going with her to the club so the two could prepare for a show tonight. She was talking to Shane and Tina, so Kit had a few moments alone with Bette.
