Chapter 9 – Big Bear Mountain – Day 1
Daniel: Noooo…. I’ve never had a nightmare.
Tina: It’s a good science fiction adventure. Bette, you want to put some coffee on. The decaffeinated stuff please.
Bette: Sure. I’ll make you some hot chocolate Daniel. We even have a few miniature marshmallows. How is your room and your shower? Everything okay?
Daniel: It was fine. Not as big as my shower at home. But the water was hot and plenty of it. The bed looks comfortable. And there is an extra blanket in the closet. I’m fine.
Bette: Well, we are going to let the fire die overnight. The electric heat should keep things comfortable, but we will be turning the temperature down while we sleep. So put the extra blanket at the foot of your bed in case you need it. You probably won’t need it.
Tina: Okay, let’s see this movie. Bette, you want to lay on this sofa with me. We will throw the comforter over us. You have one on the back of your chair, Daniel.
They watched the movie. Bette and Tina fell asleep on the sofa and Daniel fell asleep in his chair. They were more relaxed and tired than they thought they were. Tina woke up and woke Bette up.
Tina: We are not having dessert tonight. I guess we will have it for breakfast. Why don’t you help Daniel to bed and tuck him in. I’ll clean up and make sure the coffee pot is off.
Bette: Okay. Sorry, I didn’t mean to fall asleep.
Tina: We all fell asleep. So, let’s just go to bed.
Bette: Daniel, sweetie. The movie is over. Let’s get you to bed.
Daniel: Okay.
Tina put one more log on the fire, turned the thermostat down and picked up the coffee cups and put them in the sink. She then shifted the clothes in the washer to the dryer and started it. She would do a load of towels in the morning. She then headed for the bedroom. Bette soon joined her after a trip to the potty and brushed her teeth again. Tina got out the extra blanket knowing that she and Bette would not need it, but did it anyway.
Bette turned out her bedside light and joined Tina in the bed. It felt good to stretch out and cuddle Tina. They were asleep in moments. The meal, the hike, the shower and they were ready for sleep. And no one had seen more than 10 minutes of the movie.
