    “Diane!” Jules called down from the top floor of their townhouse. No answer from her blonde partner.     Jules cursed herself under her breath.  Where did I toss those car keys?  Why don’t I ever just leave those things in one place?!  $#%@!  She shut her eyes, mentally retracing her steps from last night (or in the early morning, rather), from the time she’d snuck into the house, trying to avoid waking Diane, walking carefully around the plastic curtains that blocked off a section of the hallway, then taking each step of the stairs as quietly as she could … and then… and then… Ah ha!

    She quick-stepped to the stairwell, calling out, “Diane, honey, is your desk locked?”

    Still no answer from the blonde.

    Jules blew out an exasperated breath as she rapidly skipped down the steps until she got to the second floor.  She walked quickly to Diane’s desk, anxiously looking through the things in the two bowls of knick knacks that sat on top of the desk.  Finally, her fingers bumped against the unmistakable cool silver edge of the car keys.  She fished it out, and twirled the racing red key chain around her finger triumphantly as she turned around.

    And came face to face with Diane’s frown and ice-blue eyes narrowed to pin-pricks.

    “Umm… I found it honey,” Jules said, confusedly, eyeing Diane’s crossed arms, cocked hip, and the cool glint in her sky blue eyes.  When in doubt … she decided to try to kiss her partner.

    But Diane stepped back.

    “Honey?”

    Jules reached out to grasp the blonde’s arms, rubbing the underside of each forearm.

    “Ummm….,”  she tried again.  “What…?”

    “What do you think?” frostily.  Diane shook off Jules’ hands.

    “Baby, I can explain…”

    “Uh-huh…”

    “I got home as soon as I could.”

    “Yup…”

    “But Brett got really drunk with a group of navy officers, and after that, well, he just wasn’t in any condition to close the bar.”

    “Mmmhmmm…”

    “Then it took me a while to find somebody who could.”

    “Rrrrrrigghhht…”

    “Until I found Bette.”

    Silence.

    “I know… I know…”

    Diane stepped back, arms akimbo, and tilted her head slowly to one side, then circled it to the other side.

    Jules opened her mouth again, about to say something, but Diane held up her hand.  Jules braced herself.

    4. I may be wrong, but it feels like you may be setting up the story for some drama with Dianne and Jules…. (at the bar with the guys and the party).
      And the way you ended here … yes it implies “sexy time” ……… BUT…….

      • Yes, you will see chapters soon. Just an insane travel schedule right now (or for much of the year so far, actually), from Acapulco to Beijing, Berlin to Colombo — crazy. There was a slight pause for Memorial Day, but otherwise…. Have not meant to keep readers hanging, and am going to post ASAP. I really like how the outline of this book is working out, so please let me know what you all think as the rest of the book unfolds. Thanks!

          I love to read a good book as long as it is entertaining. I see you are introducing two more new characters Diane and Jules into this new series I hope Bette and Tina aren’t fading into the background… Maybe Logan steps in uses Diane to uncover the mysterious guy who tried to hurt Bette and Tina? Finally my thought is persuading Tom to making a contribution by adding a fourth member to their family :)

    8. I love it when Bette and Tina go to these epic parties. PPS I want to see Tina’s surprise. I have a feeling it will greatly aid in Bette’s healing process.
