    Chapter V – Yes, I’m Ready

    Late September, Washington, DC

The waiter who’d just brought a basket of freshly-baked bread and pastries to their table surprisingly returned with a tray of frosted champagne flutes filled to the brim with mimosas.

“Compliments of the house!” he explained with a twinkle in his eye as he set down a drink in front of each of them.

Rian looked up in surprise and swiveled her head around to look for the maître d. The first time Rian had eaten at the Bistro with her mom, the maître d had sent over various complimentary drinks and appetizers to her table. Then he’d come over after their meal to explain to her discreetly that whenever she’d come to visit, she’d be an honored guest at the café.   When Rian started to protest, he further explained that when the owner had seen her name in the list of guests expected for brunch that day, he’d instructed the maître d to take good care of Rian and her party whenever she came by. She’d only found out recently that the café owner had been a close friend of Jonah’s.

She caught sight of the maître d now busily sorting out arrangements for a group of VIP-types that had apparently shown up without a reservation for a table to enjoy the popular Sunday brunch that this French bistro offered.

Realizing that she wouldn’t be able to catch his eye anytime soon, Rian turned to look at the waiter and touched the edge of a cufflink. He returned her tentative smile. “Just the one round, then. But please, please, thank Marcel for me. He does this every time, and I’m really going to have to insist that we pay from now on.”

He raised his arms up as if to protect himself, shrugged his shoulders, then gave her a mini-salute and turned around, tapping the tray against his leg.

Rian heard Max break into her thoughts as he lifted his flute up, “I’ll sort it out Rian, don’t worry. Right now, I just want to offer a toast.”

Rian had been quiet up until then, and had seemed content to simply stare out at the street scene around, occasionally turning to smile at her companions around the table.

She gave him a sad smile now.

    2. Glad to read RIAN is ok for the trauma she has and will endure.JADE redeemed herself rather quickly after all this is the woman she loves.Sure does a body good to know that tonight there is a chance of severe climaxs with a few scattered ”’i love yous” and the rolling thunder of two women in love coming together for the first time. Can”t wait for the post on this one.thanks

    3. I’ve been re-reading all your stories in an effort to pin down exactly what draws me to your writing. First, you have ability to vividly paint a scene by addressing all of your reader’s senses. Sentences like “Fabienne’s heels were rapping out a staccato-like rhythm as the couple traversed the black-and-white tiled floor of the famed corridor.”, feed my sense of sight and sound that virtually put me right in the scene with the characters. Or passages like “Her silky, smooth skin and the natural pleasant-smelling scent of lavender, blossom, linden, peaches and mango that wafted out of her were intoxicating. Her lips were soft and sweet, warm and delicious…” heighten my sense of touch, taste and smell that I can feel the deep emotions of the characters right along with them.

Second, you write characters in such a way that you can’t help but root for them. Each main character, whether it be Bette, Tina, Diane, Jules, Harley, Jade or Rian, is flawed and broken at some level and must go on an emotional journey of self-discovery to find true happiness. As a writer, you give your reader an instant connection to the character by weaving in their inner thoughts, feelings, hopes and fears. As a reader, I feel an affinity toward the character’s struggle because I feel like I actually know her and can a part of me in her.

In pouring over all your works, I particularly like how you maintain a consistent timeline across all the characters and stories, and how many characters and storylines bleed over into each other. You have a well-developed talent in not only writing style that puts me right in the scene, but also in character development that makes me feel like I’m experiencing the moment right along with them. I certainly hope you continue to grace us with your talent and post stories here for years to come.

I tip my hat to Skydancer, you are a rare talent.

    4. thanks Rian live.
the scene the Jade discovers Rian in the restaurant, our!
was awesome, all emotions of hade mixed between joy and
anger, and at the end to find out what really happened, was
      sensational.
And now there’s no reason to live a big love.
      You are fantastic!
      The entire constellation.
