Chapter XII – Empire State of Mind – Gold and Power
He appeared to have calmed down considerably from the agitated state he’d displayed earlier. He was obviously telling Diane a humorous story, and they were both smiling easily, as they continued to chat amiably.
As Bette continued to observe them she saw Tycho had begun to roll his sleeves up, casually unbuttoning the cuffs first. Then he started expertly folding the edges of his sleeves up and over several times, until muscular, tanned forearms appeared. In an unconscious response to Tycho’s more relaxed posture, and casual, continued exposure of yet more skin, muscle, and, more tellingly, interested glances at her, Diane was running her hands through her hair, flipping a handful away from her face, and, in the same motion, fluffing the back of her hair up, arching her neck up a bit as she did.
Uh oh.
Bette looked away from them with furrowed brows, and continued explaining her thoughts to Tyler, ”In that case, I think you and Diane should leave the room, and leave me here with him. Diane can brief Brom about everything that’s happened, and you or she can iMessage me about what Brom decides after that. I’ll try to message back.”
Tyler frowned, weighing the implications of this move. He didn’t want Bette by herself in this situation, and he knew Tina had asked Diane not to wander too far away from her, because she remained highly concerned about Bette pushing herself. He also had a sense that Bette still wasn’t in the clear concerning her heart health, and, having observed the couple in the past, he knew Tina was hyper-vigilant about that aspect of Bette’s health, too, keeping a watchful eye over sources of stress, in particular, that could affect Bette.
From all that he’d seen of the brunette, he also knew that she tended to be unmindful of perceived constraints that could bind her thoughts or actions, and she’d been recently commenting that she felt she was back, 100%, and so felt she was fully able to examine various angles of the puzzle Spencer and, probably Raoul, had left her. Based on what Diane and Jules had told him and Demeter, he’d heard Bette was always pushing herself either too hard or too far, physically, or mentally.

Thanks! So, what it boils down to is that Bette either has the numbers or she has the gold and don’t realize she has it. That means she is one very, very wealth woman! That’s why they are trying to get her. PPS
Oh ok, i am in with Cellphone48. Bette has either the numbers or the gold.
Sky Im intrigued glad you got another chapter going…..
Bette certainly is in for some trouble if she doesn’t figure this out. Loved it, thanks.
My, my, my… you sure know how to create an exciting tale of mystery. I’m enjoying what you have done so far and where you seem to be heading. Let’s hope that Brom can keep Tina and Angie safe from harm as Bette figures this out. Excellent work, can’t wait to read another chapter!
My spidey-sense is set a-tingling too when this chapter throws up more questions than it answers. Great storytelling. I need to read the next chapter.
Wow! I am with cell on this Bette has the gold or the numbers. Can’t wait to see were you to this next. Thank you PPS
