    Chapter6.

Eddie turned round, his brow furrowed in confusion.

You actually listen to what hes saying? he asked.

I couldn’t believe he was actually waiting for an answer to that question, and it wasn’t a sarcastic comment that had back fired horribly and he was going to have to come up with some nice and extravagant but unrealistic compliment to make it up to me.

Yes Eddie I do use my ears from time to time.

I didn’t mean it offensively, its just that you always look off in your own world during meetings. he said, turning back round to continue typing and clicking away.

I never understood how he made it look so believable that he knew what he ws doing. There was no way in ***** that he could be doing anything constructive by clicking that quickly, I mean it takes everyone a fare amount of time to find something as simple as Word. Right?

Well there was one thing Eddie was right about, I was off in my own world in the meetings, and out of the meetings for that matter. In fact I tried to spend as little time as possible in the real world. For my life was not full of the excitement, money and glamour which was promised to me through out my years of *****, during further education. At the age of twenty two I had ended up sitting in an office doing a job I didn’t really understand. With four A-levels and a first from a well respected university in Law, Physics and Advanced Latin…only joking, but I did get a first in English Literature. I couldn’t see any long term prospects in my job, it bored me to tears and the only reason I took it was because it paid well and I needed money for my flat.

Subsequently the flat I shared with my best friend Lizzie had not had any male company since we moved in, apart from the land lord who had wanted to install several adult channels on our television. I politely said no, however made the mistake of leaving the flat to pick up some groceries and returned to the sound of a program aptly named Hidden Depths. Where ironically no ones depths were very well hidden, in fact everything was very much on display a lot of the time. Lizzie made the excuse of needing the channel for research, she was a journalist. But then again she said buying all the different flavours of Ben and Jerrys ice cream was for research. I definitely didn’t see her making an kind of notes when she sat down with a tub of Minter Wonderland (my personal favourite) and watched the entire Indiana Jones boxset from beginning to end.

    1. “…I felt like shouting and screaming whilst running round the office with my pants on my head, at least they’d let me go home early. Even if my home had suddenly turned into a mental institute, it would still be better than being sat at work.”
