    Chapter6.

You free Wednesday? he asked, smiling at me with yellowing teeth and he really needed a shave.

Wednesday I think Im busy Eddie, maybe some other time. I said, sighing inwardly. One point to me, I had successfully got myself out of that rapidly growing hole.

    What about Thursday?

Again I was frozen, I couldn’t accept an invitation to go on a date with him then say no to every day he requested. Although that was a subtle way of letting him know without directly saying no, however could be con sued as confusing him. I laughed in my head, it was no wonder men found women so hard to read.

    Im busy Thursday too.

Silence, not such a good sign. Edward looked at me, his mind ticking through the possibilities of what I was thinking.

Right, what night are you free then?

Great, he was going to make this difficult for me.
Oh well, nothing more liberating for the soul than the truth, no matter how hard it was to say it.

Actually Eddie Im pretty much booked up, Im sorry I said yes to going out. I admitted, offering a lame smile.

He sighed and his face fell, shaking his head briefly to hide the look in his eyes.

Thats ok, I know it was a bit of a long shot. Youre way out of my league. he said in a mumble, walking away before I even had a chance to make him feel better with empty compliments that I didn’t really mean.

I turned back to the computer, a black screen greeted me and I gritted my teeth and narrowed my eyes at the useless hunk of junk. Eddies words came back me; I never understood the deal with leagues. Lizzie always wittered on about how many different leagues there were and how it was practically the dating law not to be seen with someone who was out of your league. As I looked into the reflective black glass I pondered which league I fell into. I wasnt one for endorsing my own looks but I knew I wasnt ugly. Apart from in the morning, when I tended to resemble something which even Mulder and Scully would find unsettling to look at. But I had fairly good skin, my nose wasnt too big or too small and in the past my lips had been described as kissable. Whether that was a good thing or not I wasnt too sure. As the people who tended to say that were guys who wanted to get into my pants and they were never ones to trust when it came to compliments. The only thing I always got praised for was my eyes; I had always thought they were too big, but then again if it was a part of me it I would never consider it as perfect or attractive. They were big though and dipped down slightly at the edges, making me look slightly younger than I was. I had to admit they were an unusual colour; they were green but not a emerald green or a moss green, more a deep sea green.

I leant back from the computer screen and looked at the clock, it was only one. I felt like shouting and screaming whilst running round the office with my pants on my head, at least theyd let me go home early. Even if my home had suddenly turned into a mental institute, it would still be better than being sat at work.
