Ch4

“Do you want me to drive?  I don’t mind.”  Shane asked Carmen, they had been on the road for about an hour.  She knew how boring it could be driving non stop.

“My driving skill is better than yours.  Why are you suddenly so keen anyway?”  She smiled.

“Come on, let me drive a Mercedes for once. Plus, I am your bodyguard now, doesn’t bodyguards usually do the hard work? I should drive.”  She insisted.

“As you wish.”  She parked the car at the next petrol station and they switched places.  Shane got some water and snacks too.

“You are a caring person.” Carmen commented.  Shane just shrugged.

“How do you know that I would agree to this?”  She pointed at herself, then at Carmen.

“I don’t know.  Just thought it would be fun.” She smiled cheekily.

“Why don’t you go to college?”  Shane asked.

“Qualification is for people who need to find a job and earn a living.  I don’t need to work as I have a trust fund.  I have more than enough money for a lifetime.”  She sounded so causal.

Shane’s eye widen, a bit shocked to hear this revelation. “Then why did you rob people at night?”

“Because I am bored.” She talked like it was the most logical thing to do!  Unbelievable!

“That’s not a valid reason.  You should find a job, then you will have some commitments and will not get bored.”  She tried to reason with her.

“Aren’t you bored cutting hair all day?”  She asked innocently. 

Shane smiled bitterly, choosing to ignore her as there was some truth in her question. 

“Being in love will do too, maybe that can take my mind of boredom.” Carmen suddenly said.

“Do you have a boyfriend?” She asked, trying not to jump to any conclusions.

“What do you think?  If I am straight, I wouldn’t be sitting here with you!”  She said in a high pitch voice for the first time.

“Well, I just don’t want to jump to conclusions.  You may like to swing both sides.” She defended herself.
