Shane didn’t know what to say, if anything, so she looked at Shay, who pushed closer to her, as if hiding.  It wasn’t lost on Shane the trauma that her half brother had gone through.  Shane did have emotions, she was very astute to them, in fact, Shane knew EXACTLY what Shay was feeling right now, because Shane had been through it before.  That was why she was having trouble dealing with what was happening to Shay.  Vivid memories of being left to someone, anyone, strangers, people who would use you for money, and a sad form of human slavery when a foster parent simply took you into so that you could cook them dinner or take out the trash.

Sam sighed; Shane was having a difficult time stepping up to the plate Sam wasn’t sure why, but that would come later, Sam was sure.  Even though they’d known each other a while, they knew very little about one another.  “Everyone…,” began Sam rubbing her sweaty palms on her jeans, “…is Shay.”

“Your little bro,” said Carmen softly.  Carmen’s dark eyes flicked to Shane’s, who had met Shay just before their supposed wedding.  The shame on Shane’s face was evident when Carmen looked at her, so Carmen looked away sheepishly.

A soft muttering washed over the group of friends, no one really knowing what to say, until, “What’s he doing here?” asked Alice sarcastically.  Alice was already drunk, having slipped a very Peggy looking flask from her very roomy purse.

“Alice!” said Bette swatting Alice in the back of the head, harder than she’d intended.  Jo snickered behind a cupped hand.

“You can be so callus,” said Rosita with a hard snort.  Rosita wondered where Alice’s odd sense of humor came from at times, and why she had not stop button to that mouth of hers.

                “Ummmm…  Gabe…  Ummmm…,” began Shane.

“…Shay, why don’t we finish putting the sheets on the bed, ok?” interrupted Sam not wanting Shay to hear anything that his father as done wrong.  Even though he might have been an ass for leaving Shay, Sam didn’t think that he needed any more negative in his life at the moment.  Ushering him into the bedroom, a hand on his small shoulder, Shay gave Shane a guarded look and she smiled at him reassuringly.

    1. Another great chapter! It is amazing how Bette and Tina can be at each others throats one minute and then smiling with each other the next. Hmmmmm!!! LOL If nothing else, I am persistent!! Thanks!! Oh…and spot on dialogue!!!

    2. Dont want Amy with Tina. will just get her a wee bit closer to Jo. guess Bette will need to do something to get Amy away from Jo Like kick butt. Now Alice is being a complete ass. Tina and Quin I can see that. They might think Quin is to young,or Tina is to old but looks like a good match. Helena seen rather bitter. Oh yes will have the complete shoulder the morning of the 25th. I can type you a comment it I do it with my toes.(Joke). thanks for posting. San is my favorite person thanks bvh

    3. Really feel for Quin, temptation can be a bitch. The devil on my shoulder is saying she should “Go for it!” LOL. I was waiting for Bette to lose it, Amy would piss anyone off. Although its impled that Bette was upset over Tina I thought she was angry over Amy constantly invading her personal life, (Jo, her friends etc.) not necessarily Amy’s relationship w/ Tina. Tina should tell Quin how she feels, I’m sure she’d get a positive response from Quin. Alice’s mouth is a ticking time bomb, thank goodness no one payed attention to her drunken rambling. Terrific stuff, already wanting more.

    4. I love that I have absolutely no idea where each of your chapters will lead. Glad that Bette went to Jo, despite her misgivings, and could say just the right thing. Thank wink you had Jo give Amy was just plain cruel.

    5. Amy’s still making a play for Jo. We’ll see what Bette’s going to do about that… Shane will most def get the hang of parenting. Her determination that Shay not be put into foster care alone will see to that. So! Tina wants Quin for sure, does she? I see she’s rushing off to look at the dailies so that she can get her fill. Becca has *got* to back off Tina’s woman. There, I said it again! LOL @ drunk Alice getting shut up by Ro, then by Jo. I know Alice is going to fully blab, sooner or later, and it’s going to be a disaster. Maybe Bette can shut her up? Cos I don’t think Al is quite scared enough of Jo… Great chapter, Janet, thank you!

    6. A little Sam and Shane can make my day! Jo and Amy made me nervous for Bette, then Bette of course Bette shows why everone loves Bette…hat was great! Wow, Becca wanted to cheat with Quin? Alice shouldn’t drink she was getting a little mean girls on the vodka. Loved the update as always thanks.
