(Bette’s preparing for the opening of the gallery)
Bette’s Pov-The day had been terrific. I spent the morning trying to prepare for the opening of the gallery doors. The public had begun to crowd around outside staring absent-mindedly at the “Portards” sign hanging outside. Angelica approached my right side and took my hand in to her own. I gazed down at my daughter with a big smile on my face. I’ve never seen a crowd this big on a busy street in Manhattan before. I couldn’t wait to open the doors. Lindsey-my assistant from Chicago had flew down early this morning to prep me for the arrival of the mayor. Supposedly my gallery was the main talk of the city beneath the trees, and he had wondered what sparked so much attention on the busy strip in which my gallery was located. Honestly, I don’t know, but, I had this gut feeling that something was going to happen. Something good was about to burst from this breeze of comfort, warmeth, and love. I had made my mark in New York.
“Mommy.”
“Yes sweetie?”
“What’s with all of those people out there?”
“Oh,”I said smiling, as I stroked her hair,”Those are mommy’s customers. They are who really keep this here gallery up and running.”
“They are?”
“Yup. They are responsible for buying the paintings that hang in each and every wing of the gallery. Do you remember what Lindsey was doing this morning?”
“Uh-huh. She was replacing the pieces of art, that had already been bought”.
“Alright.You know what’s going on. I see you’ve been paying attention.”
“I always do mommy. These eyes and this brain never stop working for anything.”
“That’s good. Keep it up kiddo.”
“Mommy.”
“Yes baby?”
“I have to go to the bathroom.”
“You know where it is?”
“Uh-huh. I’ll be right back mommy”
“Okay. Call me if you need me.”
“Okay, bye mommy.”
“Hey Bette.”
“Yes Lindsey?”
“The galleries all set ma’am to open. You’re more than welcomed to let the cutomers in.”
“Thanks,” I smiled and quickly glanced down at my watch, “What time do you have?”
“It’s about 10:10 to be exact.”
“Oh Jesus, I’m late.” I walked over and unlocked the doors. I pushed them open and let the crowd of people in. They swarmed around me like bees. Some shook my hand and introduced themselves. It was like I was a celebrity. The feeling was intense. When I had turned around Angelica was coming my way. Once she saw me clearly she ran over to me. She looked frightened. “Are you okay sweetie?”

I am suddenly reminded of Rocky Horror Picture Show with all of the names-calling (Janet! Dr. Scott! Janet! Brad! Rocky! *Rocky glares*). And OMG Tina with the memo pad. WTF!!!! She must’ve been a big fan of Back to the Future (George McFly scribbling down a bunch of sweet stuff to say to Marty’s mom only to fuck it up lol). And me a comedian? Nahhhhh I don’t consider myself on the same plane with people like Ellen DeGeneres and Robin Williams. I just prefer to make people happy and in the process possibly capture the attention of “The One.”

This is what we’ve been waiting for, like, forever. Thanks for the reunion. Isn’t it amazing how intutitive and sensitive Angelica is? She could just feel Tina’s presence in NY and was seemingly uneasy all day long. And what a shock Tina’s reappearance was for Bette…she fainted.
