Crossroads- Ch. 14
Lara nervously flipped through the magazine, while trying to look composed. Taking a deep breath she attempted to stifle the butterflies that were raging, and stole a look at her wristwatch. 2:43….dammit, how can only two minutes have passed since I sat down?
She glanced at the receptionist, and flipped another page. Seventeen minutes. These things always go on time. Seventeen minutes, and then fifty minutes. Then I’m done. Easy enough. She looked at the words on the page without registering any meaning. Instead she reflected on her Sunday morning conversation with Alice.
Alice had surprised her with coffee, toast and fresh fruit in bed. As they were companionably noshing, Alice had casually asked if Lara remembered her dream. Immediately, Lara lost her appetite.
"What do you mean?" She’d asked.
Alice had responded. "From the looks of it you had a pretty bad dream earlier this morning. You were pretty agitated. I was just wondering if you remembered any of it."
Lara evaded the question. "Did I say anything?"
Alice nodded. "You yelled out, ‘Dana, no!’, and you were crying."
Lara put her coffee cup down, and kept her eyes averted. She’d considered lying to Alice by pretending she didn’t remember anything. However, she didn’t want to be deceitful in any way. Instead, she’d opted for speaking honestly.
"Um. I don’t want to talk about it, is that okay?" She knew that she sounded defensive, and she darted a quick glance at Alice, trying to soften the words with a slight smile. Unfortunately, she could feel the smile twisting into more of a grimace. She’d cleared her throat, and picked up the coffee cup with a shaking hand.
Alice reached over and put her hand on Lara’s knee, with a reassuring squeeze. "No problem. Just let me know if there is ever anything you do want to talk about, okay?"
And that had been the extent of that conversation. They’d moved onto other topics, but Lara was unable to ease the sudden knot in her stomach. She’d picked at her salad during lunch, and was actually a little relieved when Alice left to work on her script for The Chart the following day.
Almost immediately, Lara had changed into workout clothes and pulled on her running shoes. However, she’d only made it a kilometer or so before her wrist was throbbing wildly and she felt as though her head would explode. Stopping, she’d leaned against a tree until the pounding dulled, and her heart had calmed. Remembering Dr. Wang’s words, she’d turned homeward with a feeling of complete dread. She’d spent the rest of the day online, researching the names Dr. Wang had recommended as competent counselors. She’d finally settled on Dr. Elisabeth Wheeler, and resolved to call her office for an appointment first thing on Monday morning. Lara was unprepared to hear the cheerful receptionist mention there had been a cancellation for that very afternoon….and wasn’t this just Lara’s lucky day?!?

Yeah…Bette & Tina dinner and a adult movie…can’t get any better than that. Glad Shane is home…keep posting…more B&T please…
Wow, you’ve certainly got a grip on what’s drivinf LAra these days. Will she be smart enough to share it with Alice? I hope so because I’m loving the way you’re crafting their relationship…and I’m with Captain, my Captain on B&T!
love the update as always! please post more soon! and thanks for asking, my wrist actually is much better. it hurts every now and then, but for the most part im back no normal! great job on the story! keep it up
Love it love it love it, excellent update and insight into Miss Lara’s issues–I hope she goes home after her exhausting day and gets some lovin’ from Alice. I like how you had Alice not pry Lara for info but instead expressed A’s willingness to be there for L when she comes to terms with things on her own time. Especially since it seems that L is not yet used to sharing really deep emotions, post-Dana. Will she share more soon? Lastly, I agree with SammysGirl that you are crafting this relationship so nicely. They have each others’ backs. And they really dig each other. What a combo. Great Shane and Alice interaction too. Please post again soon, keep it up!
i really like this story. keep it goin.
I’m glad Lara decided to visit a psych. I knew there was more to it. I hope she will be able to recover from it. Some habits don’t die easily (as we could see at the ending of this story…will she get through those 6 hours without fainting?). Will she tell Alice about it? And you gotta love Alice for her straightforwardness when she asked Tina about her and Bette. Btw, I could go on and on about odd music ‘couples’, but I’m afraid I’m going to embarass myself further and further. ;)
Great update, as usual! I thought the therapy scene was really interesting – it’s a great way to find out more about Lara’s character (I only wish that would happen on the show!). I’m looking forward to hearing about the issues underlying Lara’s nightmare about Dana in her next session. I love how you’re interweaving all the other characters’ storylines (Shane’s return, B&T’s reunion) into the background of the main Lace plot. Great job! As for Reunions – I think things are on track to post an update in the next couple of days.
You are doing a great job of characterizing Lara!
Those dreams sound ominous… I like that Alice is giving Lara room to breathe. Thanks for another well-written chapter.
I hope that lara can get though this as her and alice will mke a great pair and they will both need to start speaking about their feelings a bit more and alice talking with lara and not pushing that shows that she cares a lot for lara please post soon great update I love it
In a fine act of betrayal to Tibette, I cared more about the Alice/Lara side of it all than Bette and Tina. This story (and your writing) is really good. Please post again soon.
