    Crossroads- Ch. 14

Angel clapped her hands and gurgled happily.

They turned the stroller up the drive as Bette and Jenny stood up from the front porch steps with welcoming smiles.

Alice cleared her throat. "Well, you know what they say girls, three’s a family and six is a crowd. What do you guys say to meeting me for dinner at The Planet?" She directed her gaze to Shane and Jenny.

"Sounds good. I’d like to see Lara and Kit." Shane looked at Jenny who nodded her availability.

    –**–

Lara popped two ibuprofen, took a long swallow of water and looked at her watch. What a fucking day. And, the dinner rush hasn’t even started yet. She’d come back from her appointment to immediately battle a number of minor crises in the kitchen. The evening dishwasher had called in sick, and the raspberry lime souffles she’d planned for dessert had turned out disastrously, much to her pastry cook’s consternation.

She’d hastily substituted a chocolate bread pudding instead, which was in the oven and smelling good, as she emerged from her office for a final walk through the galley. The day shift dishwasher had agreed to take a double shift and prep work for the vegetables and starches had been completed. The steaks, chicken and fish had been trimmed and were chilled. Thank God. Lara looked down at her plastered arm with a frown. She was severely limited in her ability to help out in the kitchen, and she felt a growing knot in her stomach as she realized the dinner crowd could be a challenge. Sudden dots danced at the edge of her peripheral vision and a roaring seemed to fill her head. Leaning against the sink she ignored the look of concern from the dishwasher. Dammit, I can’t believe I didn’t eat anything when I got back from Dr. Wheeler’s. What the fuck was I thinking?

"Lara, are you okay? Is your arm hurting?" Terri, her young pastry chef was suddenly at her elbow.

"I’m good. Hey, can you get a smoothie from up front for me? I think I need to put something in my stomach before the night gets rolling."

Terri headed to the front. "Be back in a sec. Go sit down."

Lara gritted her teeth. She hated feeling so dependent. God, I’ll be glad when this night is over. Just six more hours and I get to go home.

    1. Wow, you’ve certainly got a grip on what’s drivinf LAra these days. Will she be smart enough to share it with Alice? I hope so because I’m loving the way you’re crafting their relationship…and I’m with Captain, my Captain on B&T!

    2. love the update as always! please post more soon! and thanks for asking, my wrist actually is much better. it hurts every now and then, but for the most part im back no normal! great job on the story! keep it up

    3. Love it love it love it, excellent update and insight into Miss Lara’s issues–I hope she goes home after her exhausting day and gets some lovin’ from Alice. I like how you had Alice not pry Lara for info but instead expressed A’s willingness to be there for L when she comes to terms with things on her own time. Especially since it seems that L is not yet used to sharing really deep emotions, post-Dana. Will she share more soon? Lastly, I agree with SammysGirl that you are crafting this relationship so nicely. They have each others’ backs. And they really dig each other. What a combo. Great Shane and Alice interaction too. Please post again soon, keep it up!

    4. I’m glad Lara decided to visit a psych. I knew there was more to it. I hope she will be able to recover from it. Some habits don’t die easily (as we could see at the ending of this story…will she get through those 6 hours without fainting?). Will she tell Alice about it? And you gotta love Alice for her straightforwardness when she asked Tina about her and Bette. Btw, I could go on and on about odd music ‘couples’, but I’m afraid I’m going to embarass myself further and further. ;)

    5. Great update, as usual! I thought the therapy scene was really interesting – it’s a great way to find out more about Lara’s character (I only wish that would happen on the show!). I’m looking forward to hearing about the issues underlying Lara’s nightmare about Dana in her next session. I love how you’re interweaving all the other characters’ storylines (Shane’s return, B&T’s reunion) into the background of the main Lace plot. Great job! As for Reunions – I think things are on track to post an update in the next couple of days.

    6. I hope that lara can get though this as her and alice will mke a great pair and they will both need to start speaking about their feelings a bit more and alice talking with lara and not pushing that shows that she cares a lot for lara please post soon great update I love it
