Dawn of a new day
“Well she said Jodi was holding a ‘bigger’ grudge so I assume she had one too.”
“Did she talk about it?”
“Yes. I suppose it had something to do with being humiliated by whole sex thing.”
“But how could she hold a grudge against Bette for not feeling the same way. You can’t control who you fall in love with. I think Bette did the right thing by not leading her on if there was no chance of it going anywhere.” Recalling Bette’s version of the story Martha knew her daughter’s heart was broken but she thought Bette had done the right thing not to encourage it. Her heartbreak would have been far greater if she thought they had a chance. Needless to say Kelly wasn’t thinking rationally at the time.
“It didn’t make sense to me either. Kelly said that when it happened she spread rumors and gossip that Bette made advances and tried to force a sexual relationship with her. Apparently no one believed her. Kelly said she was humiliated and because of it was forced to leave Yale. She set out to hurt Bette and just ended up hurting herself. She wants payback for that.”
“That’s ancient history Helena. They were in college. Everyone suffers a few broken hearts when they are that young. She should have moved on by now. I don’t really understand any of this.” Martha expressed exasperation at her daughter’s immaturity holding a grudge after 15 years.
“Martha I think Kelly’s feelings for Bette ran a lot deeper than just your run of the mill college crush. She was in love with Bette and although Bette loved her it wasn’t in the same way. She just couldn’t handle the rejection. She’s having trouble letting go of the hurt even now. She wants Bette to suffer in some way for it.” Helena tried to help the older woman to understand as some of her own irrational actions were a result of her mother’s rejection.
“So she told you she wanted revenge against Bette and you were willing to help her?” This time Peggy was accusing her.
“I don’t know what I was getting myself into. We were both high on liquor and drugs and we were spouting off at the mouth. I told you I didn’t even think that Bette did anything wrong. I’d rather forget that Kelly and I even had the conversation.”

I was just completing and sending my comment from the last chapter when I discovered this new chapter. So happy that Bette told Tina about her history. It is important that they have nothing between that would affect their lives in the future. Its great that Tina is mature enough and sure of herself to understand all that has transpired in Bettes’ life and still be able to love and share in their love and future plans. All these negative things have changed and colored Bettes’ life in a significant way and now Tina understands the nuances that makes Bette the woman that she has become yet still love her to the bone. Wonderful chapter. Thanks for posting.
Also happy that helena seems to have redeemed herself with her mother. I just hope she carries through and not warn those two hellish bitches of their impending doom. Can hardly wait to see what happens next. Enjoying these chapters so much. Thanks.
Dang BAT!! It’s hard trying to catch up with your story as you post faster than I can read your chapters but you are doing such an excellent job even if I haven’t commented in a few chapters!
I love that Bette is fully opening up and trusting Tina enough to share her history with Jodi as it gives Tina a better understanding of how that has been a part of what has shaped Bette into the woman she is. I love how you have Tina so supportive of Bette and sure of where she is in Bette’s life now. Helena seems to be showing some redeeming qualities and that’s good to see and of course I just love your Peggy in this story. Kelly and Jodi really don’t stand a chance with Peggy looking out for things
Thanks BAT – Loved it!
What a great chapter, thank you:
for taking the Peggy/Helena relationship to a better level and expanding their characters
for strengthening Bette/Tina’s relationship by Bette trusting the full story and Tina showing such strength and support
Beautifully written and great storytelling as always look forward to your next post.
Just wanted to tell you that I am still reading but I didn’t comment because I read this story before and remember especially this part of the story. So not to give anything away I am staying away from commenting but know I always follow your exceptional writing.
Bat, it was a great chapter. you bring together miraculously. I loved the part where Peggy and Martha “interrogation led Helena” :D
It was really great to see that Helena honestly told the story, and she regretted what she had done. the change in the behavior of Helena is the most positive thing for me. I hope to stay that way!
I’m very glad to Bette, was able to honestly say Tina, what did Jodie. Tina supportive, loving and compassionate behavior was the best.
Overall, it was a wonderful chapter.
I am lost, it’s hard to comment when i read the comments from the others, i agree with all of them.
I have read this story before but can’t remember everything, so for me it is so good as new.
You are a fantastic writer and i love this story.
Thank you for the quick updates!
Thanks BAT, it was a profound chapter and so well written. I loved the way you handled the conversation between Helena and the two moms and how mature she had become in being honest with herself and Peggy. Sometimes words do need to be said in order for healing to take place.
I also love the place where Tina and Bette are in their relationship in being open and honest with one another. Relationships are hard and do take lots of work to be the best they can be. I have a good feeling that Bette and Tina are well on their way to that kind of relationship.
Thanks for this amazing story.
Great chapter. Once again you have captured the essences of human connectivity through your choice of words.
So glad Bette told Tina everything and that Helena came clean too. Thanks so much for the two updates. Loved them
