    Daybreak (Time of Day 35)

Tina awoke in Bette’s bed. She couldn’t think of it as their bed. Not now. Not yet.

The conversation they’d begun the prior evening was so draining for each, the reopened wounds so fresh, that it only seemed sensible that she would stay over rather than driving home. Even with the replay of their hurts, their remembrances of pain inflicted, intentionally and negligently, upon each other they still desired closeness.

Tina had drifted off to sleep in the warmth of Bette’s embrace. Awakening, she found Bette in the middle of the bed, still close, lying on her back.

Propping herself up on an elbow, Tina first took the time to study the other woman’s sleeping face. Bette, asleep, could be a total change from Bette awake. Why this was had been a question that Tina had spent much time musing upon. What was it that made such a change? After many theories she ultimately settled on the thought that gone were the ever-present masks of certainty, control, and determination. Instead, it was the innocent Bette who slept. It was the little girl, the one who always struggled to be the best, to prove herself in the contest for her father’s affection, a contest held in a world that labeled her as different.

Indulging in this moment, Tina let her fingertips lightly trace over Bette’s face. Her forehead, eyebrows, nose. Moving down to the cheeks, lips, chin. When she was tracing her hand on the lobe of Bette’s ear, the dark eyes opened, and the recently explored mouth gave a smile.

Tina leaned over, placing a kiss on Bette’s forehead, welcoming her to the new day. “Good morning.”

“Yes.” Bette took the wandering hand within hers. Their fingers intertwined, each moving in small patterns within the other’s loose grasp. “How are you this morning?”

“I feel…I don’t know. I guess I feel lighter. Like some of the guilt has lost its grip and drained away in the night.”

“I promise you that we can move on now.”

    “Don’t.”

Bette looked confused. “You don’t to move on.”

“I don’t want you to make promises.”

With that Bette drew her hand away. She leveraged herself into a sitting position, back flush against the padded headboard of the bed, knees drawn up in front of her. “Because you still don’t trust me.”

    1. I think on some level, despite the progress they’ve been making, Bette might still be waiting for it all to go pear-shaped. Maybe she needs her own assurances from Tina, and not so much the other way around… But I also think that in her heart of hearts, she definitely still wants more kids, as much as Tina does. Thanks for the extra post, pseud. I hope sleep comes a bit easier for you the next time round.

    2. I am surprised that Bette isn’t jumping all over the sibling thing. I think once she process it, she will realize that this is her chance to be there, beginning to end, unlike Angelica’s time. Also, she has a sister, so she should realize the importance of giving Angie the same. I can’t imagine my life without my sister!

    3. most likely easier said than done … characterising it as a deal breaker is a bit harsh. but then again, bette asked how important it was to tina … full disclosure, i suppose. my views on our girls’ latest verbal exchange aside, i am TOTALLY addicted to this story … am happy you are too … pps!

    4. wow I never imagined that Bette wouldn’t want to have more children. Hopefully she’ll come around. Judging by the post, your insomnia isn’t such a bad thing after all, right pseud? =) PPS!

    5. They’ve set down ground rules about how they will deal with Angelica but not yet done that for how they will deal with each other. Until they get that little chore out of the way, I think talking about the possibility of having more kids is putting the cart before the horse.

    6. I know its necessary, but damn these two are frustrating. Bette wants more children and we know she wants them with Tina, I think she’s just aprehensive because she doesn’t know exactly where they’re heading. But you can’t have all the answers up front and there aren’t any guarantees, you love each other you go for it.

    7. Perhaps you can have Tina explain why she kept the pregnancy and inseminationn a secret, then Bette might feel more inclined to have more kids with Tina. Because clearly Bette’s still smarting from finding out the way she did about Angelica. Which I think makes sense. And it being a deal breaker I can see that too. More discussion is needed. Write, write, and write some more, please. Thanks. As good as always.

    8. I am sorry that you are not sleeping. But, I am glad we get more of your story. It is all so complex but they are doing some good work. I liked Tina’s observations about Bette sleeping.

    9. good on T for her ‘deal breaker’ statement…she’s entitled to state her parameters and this go round is speaking her mind even if Ms P doesn’t like it…way 2 go Tina….
