    Daybreak (Time of Day 35)

“Bette.” Tina joined Bette in the position of sitting against the headboard. She placed a hand on one knee. “That’s not what I meant at all.”

“Then what, Tina? You’re saying my word’s not good enough.”

“I’m saying that we’ve both made promises in the past, and found ourselves failing each other, unable to live up to all of the words.”

As she spoke, Tina noticed Bette pulling her knees in tighter, closer.

“I want to show you what you mean to me,” the blonde woman continued. “I want my actions to be my promise, to show my love.”

“How am I supposed to do the right thing if you can’t tell me what you expect of me?”

“I’m not saying we can’t communicate, babe. I’m just saying we need to be sure we’re doing, not just talking.”

The frown on Bette’s face meant that she wasn’t convinced.

“Think about how we are with Angelica. We’ve talked about what we’ll do while co-parenting, but more importantly, we’ve stayed consistent on how we act with her.”

    “Which brings up another subject.”

    “Angelica?”

    “Children.” Bette turned towards Tina.

    “Yeah.”

    “You’ve said you want more.”

“I do. And I would like them to be Angelica’s siblings on both my side and the donor’s.”

“I’m not sure how I feel about this. What to say.”

    “Don’t say anything.”

    “T?”

“This is a new idea to you. Please, think about it.”

“You’d let me know this time?”

“Bette.” Tina’s tone held little doubt that she hadn’t appreciated the question.

For herself, Bette looked unapologetic, but said nothing further.

“Think about it. Let me know, when you’re ready, how you feel.”

“How important is this to you?”

Now it was Tina’s turn to look down, suddenly finding small bits of something to pick off the yoga pants that she was wearing.

    “T?”

“Honestly?” She let out a deep breath. She could feel Bette’s anxiety, but was grateful Bette was giving her the space to answer. “It’s a deal breaker.”

Bette scratched at her head. “Well, at least I know the parameters.”

“I’m not going to apologize for how I feel.”

“You’re also not giving me an option, T.”

“This is what I mean. Please, Bette. Just think. Don’t respond yet.”

    “How long do I have?”

    “When you’re ready.”

    “And if I’m never ready?”

Tina shrugged. “At some point, I’ll move forward.”

    1. I think on some level, despite the progress they’ve been making, Bette might still be waiting for it all to go pear-shaped. Maybe she needs her own assurances from Tina, and not so much the other way around… But I also think that in her heart of hearts, she definitely still wants more kids, as much as Tina does. Thanks for the extra post, pseud. I hope sleep comes a bit easier for you the next time round.

    2. I am surprised that Bette isn’t jumping all over the sibling thing. I think once she process it, she will realize that this is her chance to be there, beginning to end, unlike Angelica’s time. Also, she has a sister, so she should realize the importance of giving Angie the same. I can’t imagine my life without my sister!

    3. most likely easier said than done … characterising it as a deal breaker is a bit harsh. but then again, bette asked how important it was to tina … full disclosure, i suppose. my views on our girls’ latest verbal exchange aside, i am TOTALLY addicted to this story … am happy you are too … pps!

    4. wow I never imagined that Bette wouldn’t want to have more children. Hopefully she’ll come around. Judging by the post, your insomnia isn’t such a bad thing after all, right pseud? =) PPS!

    5. They’ve set down ground rules about how they will deal with Angelica but not yet done that for how they will deal with each other. Until they get that little chore out of the way, I think talking about the possibility of having more kids is putting the cart before the horse.

    6. I know its necessary, but damn these two are frustrating. Bette wants more children and we know she wants them with Tina, I think she’s just aprehensive because she doesn’t know exactly where they’re heading. But you can’t have all the answers up front and there aren’t any guarantees, you love each other you go for it.

    7. Perhaps you can have Tina explain why she kept the pregnancy and inseminationn a secret, then Bette might feel more inclined to have more kids with Tina. Because clearly Bette’s still smarting from finding out the way she did about Angelica. Which I think makes sense. And it being a deal breaker I can see that too. More discussion is needed. Write, write, and write some more, please. Thanks. As good as always.

    8. I am sorry that you are not sleeping. But, I am glad we get more of your story. It is all so complex but they are doing some good work. I liked Tina’s observations about Bette sleeping.

    9. good on T for her ‘deal breaker’ statement…she’s entitled to state her parameters and this go round is speaking her mind even if Ms P doesn’t like it…way 2 go Tina….
