DIARY OF A STUDENT – CHAPTER FIVETEEN

It was 4 AM in the morning. Bette couldn’t sleep. She was thinking about her mother. What if the woman wasn’t her mother? She looked like the older, whiter version of her, but did it make her, her mother? She was beautiful, Bette thought. She was sweet to. She wasn’t a homophobe, THANK GOD! This week she didn’t need to go to school. Tomorrow she would meet Tina’s family. She had never seen any of them. On the phone, the sister was sweet but the other ones… She didn’t know. She hoped they would be at least polite. Tina had told her that they were really happy about the kids. She missed them… It would take 3 weeks before they could stay with her a few days. She knew they were her kids but the y would never look like her and that made her sad. She loved them… she really did but they could only pick up behavior from her. She hoped that, when they were older, they would not be angry at her and Tina for being gay. She looked at the time again. 4.56AM. Pff, she wanted Tina next to her. She was planning to marry her when they both had there diploma. Bette wanted to keep studying Art History and t-starting her own Gallery, not in Belgium but in L.A. Her friends were planning on moving there to when they were done with school. Tina studied Movie and Television and she wanted to teach. She had to study 4 years after high school. Bette 5 years. They would rent an apartment first and after a few years of working they would buy a house in a nice neighborhood. The kids would be about 8-9 by then. She tried to picture the two dark-haired children older. She couldn’t see it. ‘Pff,” she thought. “I need to get some sleep, tomorrow she needed to look a little good.

Bette woke up at 8AM. She was tired.  At 10AM she would have breakfast with Tina, Johnny, Grace and Tina’s family. She wasn’t really nerves our something but she wanted them to like her. She dressed in a t-shirt and a jeans she knew Tina loved, high black boots and a leather jacket. Her dad had left the car in the garage because he didn’t need it on his ‘trip’. She grabbed the spare key and headed to the café.
