Do I know you? Part 3

Do I know you?  Part 3

Helena, Amy, Phyllis and several volunteer where already in the meeting about the plans for the Christmas show. ….Phyllis had offered her home as the place to showcase the students and AAC participants’ art work. Jane Chan, an up and coming caterer from the community had garnered several donations of dishes from local restaurant or other caterers. Helena volunteered to make on of her favorite dishes. There was tremendous excitement gathering about the event. The fundraising goal was set at $15,000 that would be split between supplies for the Center and scholarship awards to the kids in the program. The kids weer excited to showcase their work to their parents and to the local community. Helena was convinced that the goal was conservative and they would blow through it with the A-list of art lovers that was on the guest list.

Bette came into the Center on her mobile threatening to castrate some poor unfortunate carpenter who did not build a new display for the University’s winter show to specs. She quickly ended she call and apologized to the group for being late.

She’d had been having a horrible day. She had a argument with Jodi earlier that day about Bette’s not being available when she said she would be. Jodi had argued that Bette needed to improve her time management. It was difficult enough to argue with someone who needed no clock, but to do so over TTY was woefully painful. In her anger and she misspelled multiple words which further infuriated her and Jodi. This set her day off late. She had several meetings with department heads about tenure evaluations. There was some grumbling about the lack of enough vegan selection on the cafeteria. Tina was asking Bette to swap weekends with Angelica at the last moment so she could have a date with a hot new lesbian writer of vampire fictions. Then just as she left her office James informed her that the carpenter realized they had miscalculated the designers measurements and would have to start rebuilding the display units. She thought about Candance whose work was excellent but they had not been in contact after Bette broke up with her to return to Tina. Bette contemplating calling her to assume the project but this might open old wounds for all those who were involved. Then to top it off she was nearly broadsided by a high speed chase with some juvenile delinquent in a stolen SUV. Her coffee spilled on her brand new designer suit. She thought to herself. “God I need a break. No, I need a drink”. Certainly the moon must be full.

    1. Squirl, that was so great. The brown-sugar comment was very sweet. I think this story is going very well. Do I see a B&H hookup comming soon. Thanks PPVS

    2. hmmmm….i’m not sure about helena’s meaning on that one. is this going to be an issue later on? helena’s issues around race haven’t been explored on the show, and it’d be a good thing–specially given her daughter’s background. interesting. i love the building tension between the two women…chapter 4 tonite you say???? bring it!!! :) thankx for the rapid posting, it’s making my day(s)!

    3. I actually thought the brown sugar reference was cute…angie is the color of brown sugar (or coffee with milk…so cute)….squirl, how is that you denied us a fic until now…ur an excellent writer, and ur on the Belena ship, so you rock by default…lol…pps

    4. That may be true, but I found Helena’s use of “brown sugar” to refer to Angelica not so good. She is neither part of Angie’s family, nor is she black, and it sounds patronizing at the very least, even though she was expressing affection. Probably is patronizing in regard to Bette too but at least she is an adult..and I want them to share some sugar…brown and white! Hot that would be!

    5. Ah, the building tension between these friends! Yeah, the “brown sugar” comment can be taken a number of ways. It obviously has sentimental value for Bette, and at least for now, Bette isn’t reading more into it. But maybe she will later… Anyway, I like how you’re crafting this story!

    6. nice… to me “brown sugar” is no more patronizing as “mocha”, it represents a color (and something nice to eat), and I don’t feel Helena has an issue with races :-) — I also laughed at the “hot new lesbian writer of vampire fictions” : now, who can this be : Helebette ? Ashtuck ?, somebody else ? ;-)
