Do I know you? Part 3

“Thanks Helena but that work has been sitting there and it can sit there a few more days. I will entertain her and pamper her and I think that would be what the doctor ordered.”

“Bette, I hope you don’t mind but I would love to see her. I felt like I haven’t seen her in eons and I think I might just need some brown sugar from my little sweet Angel”

Bette chuckled at the term “brown sugar” her father often as a child would great her with a big grin and wide open arms and a request for ‘brown sugar”. She felt happy at the memory yet sad. Despite all the fights with her cantankerous father she missed his presence and wondered if he would have warmed to Angelica.

Helena noticed Bette seemed so far away. “Are you okay? Did I say some thing wrong?’

Bette smiled and reassured her, “No you didn’t. You just reminded me of my Dad. He often called me “brown sugar” when I was a little girl. He has a way of making me just melt into his arms. I missed him just then but it was a pleasant thought.”

Helena not sure of what to say, replied. “I’m sorry. I won’t call her that again.”

Bette quickly held Helena hand to reassure her. No please don’t stop. It is sweet, endearing and so deserving. It’s okay. Really, it’s okay.” They often touched each other with the slightest touches. They were pleasant and reassuring contacts. Not overtly sexual yet sometimes the reaction of bodies got ahead of the sentiment.

"Why don’t you join us for the zoo? She gets up at the crack of dawn and we can plan to leave after breakfast say around 9:30."

Helena gasped. “So much for sleeping in”

Bette laughed and responded. “Well, if you want some brown sugar you must plan to get up early.

“Yes, I see. Okay this actually gives me a perfect excuse to get out early from the singles meet and greet Alice was trying to drag me to tonight. So tomorrow 9:30 it will be”

“Yes, you can come a little earlier if you’d like to have breakfast with us” As Bette started to leave, she turned back to Helena and said. ”Thanks”

“Thanks for what? I haven’t done anything.”

“Sometimes just being there, being a friend is enough” Bette hugged Helena. Neither was quite ready to let go but they had to before they generated and room full of raised eye brows. Helena thought to herself. “Yes indeed, perhaps I do need to get some “brown sugar’”

    1. Squirl, that was so great. The brown-sugar comment was very sweet. I think this story is going very well. Do I see a B&H hookup comming soon. Thanks PPVS

    2. hmmmm….i’m not sure about helena’s meaning on that one. is this going to be an issue later on? helena’s issues around race haven’t been explored on the show, and it’d be a good thing–specially given her daughter’s background. interesting. i love the building tension between the two women…chapter 4 tonite you say???? bring it!!! :) thankx for the rapid posting, it’s making my day(s)!

    3. I actually thought the brown sugar reference was cute…angie is the color of brown sugar (or coffee with milk…so cute)….squirl, how is that you denied us a fic until now…ur an excellent writer, and ur on the Belena ship, so you rock by default…lol…pps

    4. That may be true, but I found Helena’s use of “brown sugar” to refer to Angelica not so good. She is neither part of Angie’s family, nor is she black, and it sounds patronizing at the very least, even though she was expressing affection. Probably is patronizing in regard to Bette too but at least she is an adult..and I want them to share some sugar…brown and white! Hot that would be!

    5. Ah, the building tension between these friends! Yeah, the “brown sugar” comment can be taken a number of ways. It obviously has sentimental value for Bette, and at least for now, Bette isn’t reading more into it. But maybe she will later… Anyway, I like how you’re crafting this story!

    6. nice… to me “brown sugar” is no more patronizing as “mocha”, it represents a color (and something nice to eat), and I don’t feel Helena has an issue with races :-) — I also laughed at the “hot new lesbian writer of vampire fictions” : now, who can this be : Helebette ? Ashtuck ?, somebody else ? ;-)
