“Alice, this isn’t like the others. This is different.”
“How
do you know for sure Dane?” Alice said, walking over towards Dana. She
grabbed Dana’s hand and brought her back to the couch.
“Al, she.” Dana briefly looked up at Alice and was unable to hold her gazed. She dropped her head and stopped speaking.
“She what, babe? It’s ok, you can tell me anything. You know that.”
“She was in our house.”
“What do you mean she was in our house?”
“Remember a few months ago we went crazy trying to find that picture of us at the first US Open I played in?”
“Yeah, I still can’t understand how we could lose a framed picture.”
“Well, we didn’t. She took it. I got a letter from her with the picture in it and she had, hadyour face was all scratched out.”
Alice
didn’t speak, she merely processed. It did definitely make it easier
for her to understand why Dana would take such drastic measures.
Someone went into their home. Someone had broken than unspoken
agreement between public figure and fan. Once the door was shut to the
outside world, their life was their own and not to be shared. Sure,
there were fans in the past that went a little overboard, those that
were over zealous in their appreciation of Dana. But to come into their
home? When had she been there? Were they home when she did? Did she go
through their things? Of course she did.
For
the first time since this conversation started, Dana approached Alice.
She put her arms around her and felt Alice flinch at the initial
contact, but she was relieved when Alice relaxed in Dana’s arms a few
seconds later.
“I’m so sorry Alice.”
“No,
Dane. This isn’t your fault.” Alice replied with a shaken voice. As she
took a breath in to continue she felt a sense of anger rise within her.
This was no ordinary anger. This was the anger of someone who felt a
deep betrayal. This was the anger of a person whose sense of safety had
been destroyed and needed to feel the anger so that the fear didn’t
settle in.
“Dane,
we will take care of this. You can’t seriously think this is your
fault? Like you took this psycho off of her meds? But this I can tell
you, we are not going to give up our lives and let her win. We can’t.”
Alice said in a voice that resonated both the fear and anger in her.
“We can’t, Dana.”
Dana just held Alice tight. Wanting so very badly to believe her, but knowing that it would never be that simple.

Oh so happy to see you back! Finally I can let some of my hair grow back, I said some cause I have a feeling you wouldn’t let us off the hook so easily. Not that I don’t enjoy the torture, you should know how to keep a girl hanging on, awesome update Cid!
I don’t know if you know this, but I almost sent out a search party for you. Glad to see you back. I was down to a few crackers, so now that I know somewhat our Dana and Alice are OK, I guess I can go buy food. Great as always looking foward to your next update. Deb

I think that best explains how I feel about Dana’s nameless tormenter. Hopefully now that Alice knows about the situation the authorities can get involved to help both our girls.

Luce, you are a master at this! At page 1 I was both relieved and then scared. By the time I got to page two and three I find myself yelling “What the hell else is wrong!” And by page four, I’m crying because the page is blank! Thanks for the update, it should keep me sane til tomorrow morning. Post soon!
