Epilogue
In the end she decided to go through with the pregnancy. Angus had been asking Kit for her hand in marriage ever since they fell in love, but she kept refusing. It was when she decided to have his baby that marriage seemed to be the right thing. Now they were married and had a beautiful five-year-old son named Adam Melvin Partridge.

“you have children that mean the world to you, and your businesses are thriving. Your idea to combine the art gallery with a full-service café was brilliant. I’m so glad I lived to see ‘Shirley and Maxine’s’ come to fruition.
Both your mothers are looking down on you from heaven and I’m sure they couldn’t be prouder. My time has come to join them, but I can’t go knowing I’ve not fulfilled my promise to take care of my girl if every time I open my eyes you’re seated in that chair looking at that picture of me and your mother and you as a baby with a sad face and eating out of paper sacks. You haven’t even had a proper shower in days. Go home to your family Elizabeth.”
“You’re my family too. I’m not leaving Daddy.”
“Well you can’t just stay here…”
“I can. It’s my decision.”
“Why?”
“Because I want to take care of you Daddy.”
“That’s what you pay Shelly for. I have a full-time nurse to take care of me.”
“She’s not here 24/7.”
“And neither should you to the detriment of your own health.”
“I’m fine. I’m not leaving.”
“Why…so you can mope around and watch an old man die. I will not have it. You both need to be with your families. You need to take care of your businesses. Do you understand?”
Kit answered, “Yes Daddy” but Bette was still struggling.
“I wish I could be with you for another 90 years, but Baby it’s time to let me go. You must grieve; and you have to be strong, especially for Angelica. She’s going to take it the hardest. She knows what’s happening.” He said looking deeply into Bette’s anguished eyes.
No matter how much he tried to prepare his daughter, Bette was taking his impending death very hard. In her mind it just wasn’t fair. They’d wasted an entire lifetime, that couldn’t be made up for in just seven years.

I am so happy that you have finished after the long breaks you took!!!
Thank you for that.
It was good to see a better version of Melvin.
Thanks a lot. I hope to read you soon !
Thank you for the finishing this story!
And i hope for the new one from you!
Beautiful Story….wonderful epilogue. So many children…. Love the names. I love your characterization of Melvin. It is always pleasing when a story is presented where a parent who was so hostile toward their gay child have a change in attitude and actually create a loving relationship with their child and their family. The fact that your story actually gives Melvin an extended years of life and happiness is a wonderful story line.
During this time, there is so much pain and anguish about from just normal living. A positive joyful story is always welcomed.
Now, you have a couple of stories which you have made a great progress in. I look forward to seeing those completed as well. Love your writing. Publish when you can.
