    Everybody Knows – Part Two

Tina went out into the backyard, with her glass of wine, and sat on one of the chairs that were placed around the pool. It was a beautiful Southern Californian evening, warm enough for her to be out in a t-shirt and shorts, even though the time was approaching nearly 10pm. She had worked late tonight, knowing that no matter how late she worked, Bette would be home after her. She wondered when all of this was going to stop, or more importantly if it would ever stop. She had never considered herself the competitive type but somewhere, somehow, she and Bette had started, silently, competing over how many hours they could put in at the workplace.

Tina laughed, ruefully, to herself. This wasn’t how it was supposed to be. They were supposed to be forever young and in love. Forever in the honeymoon period. Now all they seemed to be was at work, missing each other, both physically and emotionally. How Tina wished that Bette was home right now, with her, touching her, telling her that everything would be OK. She took a big gulp of her wine, savouring the taste of it, remembering all the times that she had tasted this particular vintage on Bette tongue as they kissed, long and slow, as if they had all the time in the world. As she thought about this Tina considered the idea that they might no longer be as young as they were, but was comforted by the knowledge that they were more in love than ever.

Tina got up, but left her wine by the pool, intending to come back to it later. She went into the kitchen and made Bette a sandwich, just a small token of her love. A small gesture that she hoped Bette would appreciate when she got back from a long hard day at the CAC. She then place a bottle of water by the side of the plate. This brought another smile to Tina’s face, she wanted Bette to be happy and knew that for all of Bette’s grand declarations, it was the small things that mattered between them. Tine felt that there was something missing so she decided to leave a small note. One asking whether she need to call James to arrange a meeting with her girlfriend. Tina hoped that Bette would take it in the spirit that it was meant. That Tina wanted to spend time with Bette, just the two of them. Real life forgotten about for just a small amount of time.

    1. I love this story CG. And yes Tina, tell Bette what’s going on. All of it. Don’t hold anything back from her. Besides, she’ll love you no matter what! I hope they talk about these issues. Bette reminding Tina of melvin in scary indeed, but i kinda love that about Bette sometimes!

    2. Yikes, Bette really needs to work on those Melvinish tendencies! Particularly in the parent role, if it is to be. We often turn into our parents, but as self-aware grown-ups, it isn’t inevitable that we repeat the things we resented in them. And yeah, Tina deserves better than to be subjected to authoritarianism from her partner. Oh please, pretty please, may they work these things out.

    3. Love it mate! Like how you brought the other point of view – the thoughts behind how the sandwich and bottle of water ended up in the fridge with the note!

    4. thanks for giving us Tina’s POV. You’ve given us another spin on things with Tina’s willingness to quit her job. A lot of times it has been said that Tina was forced into it but i’m glad you gave us another perspective. Please post soon :)

    5. The ladies need to communicate…and spend less time at those jobs…shoot those jobs will be there tomorrow…but will the relationship? Your writing is so powerful…it really shows us their feelings. I like the way you go back both of them remembering good times. Keep posting.

    6. Your writing about the depth of emotion and need and sense of giving yourself to love is very amazing and I love the back view of this couple’s early years- their path to when we met them on TV. Again your words and rhythm of story is so so beyond wonderful.
