    Everybody Knows – Part Two

What Tina had never given up on though was her desire to become a mother. She knew that it wouldn’t be easy but she couldn’t give up on her dream. She had been trying to get Bette to talk about the possibility of it happening for months now, but there was always a lot of talking around the subject but never really getting to the heart of the matter. Tina knew that Bette was worried, about her ability to provide for both of them, and eventually for the three of them. Bette wanted choices in life and if they had a child Tina knew that she was limiting Bette’s freedom. She would have to stay at the CAC or another well paid job to keep them in this house, in the style that they had been living for the last seven years. Tina wanted Bette to feel liberated.

It was getting late and there was still no sign of Bette coming home. As much as Tina wanted to see Bette she was also feeling the affects of her own day at work. She walked back into the house and into the bathroom. While she was brushing her teeth she wondered how they could ever agree on this. She knew that it was something that they couldn’t compromise on. They either started a family or they didn’t. Tina knew that Bette would talk about all the practical obstacles that would prevent it from happening. When this happened Bette reminded her of Melvin so much it was almost painful. Tina would then present all the emotional reasons for doing the exact opposite. It would be the ultimate battle between head and heart and Tina had no idea who would win.

As Tina got into bed she ran her hand down the sheet on Bette’s side of the bed. She moved her head closer to Bette’s pillow and smiled softly at how it smelled of her love. The one that made her heart beat that tiny bit faster. As she lay there in the darkness she vowed that tomorrow she would talk to Bette, about how she felt, about how Bette had given her more than she could have ever imagined and now, even though she had no right, she was going to ask Bette to give her something else. A family to call their own.

Much later, barely awake, Tina felt Bette slip into bed next to her. Instinctively she turned to Bette, just wanting, if even for a moment, to touch her, to feel Bette next to her. The heat of Bette’s skin briefly awakened Tina, enough to kiss Bette, enough to tell her that Tina loved her. Tina hoped that this would always be true for them.

    1. I love this story CG. And yes Tina, tell Bette what’s going on. All of it. Don’t hold anything back from her. Besides, she’ll love you no matter what! I hope they talk about these issues. Bette reminding Tina of melvin in scary indeed, but i kinda love that about Bette sometimes!

    2. Yikes, Bette really needs to work on those Melvinish tendencies! Particularly in the parent role, if it is to be. We often turn into our parents, but as self-aware grown-ups, it isn’t inevitable that we repeat the things we resented in them. And yeah, Tina deserves better than to be subjected to authoritarianism from her partner. Oh please, pretty please, may they work these things out.

    3. Love it mate! Like how you brought the other point of view – the thoughts behind how the sandwich and bottle of water ended up in the fridge with the note!

    4. thanks for giving us Tina’s POV. You’ve given us another spin on things with Tina’s willingness to quit her job. A lot of times it has been said that Tina was forced into it but i’m glad you gave us another perspective. Please post soon :)

    5. The ladies need to communicate…and spend less time at those jobs…shoot those jobs will be there tomorrow…but will the relationship? Your writing is so powerful…it really shows us their feelings. I like the way you go back both of them remembering good times. Keep posting.

    6. Your writing about the depth of emotion and need and sense of giving yourself to love is very amazing and I love the back view of this couple’s early years- their path to when we met them on TV. Again your words and rhythm of story is so so beyond wonderful.
