    Bette made one last scan over her list before releasing the caterers’ set up crew.  She gave them a sincere thank you after signing the receipt and inwardly sighed relief that so far the party service managed to meet her expectations for Madie’s big day.  The entertainment would arrive later and she prayed the scheduled event would live up to its reputation.

     

    Noting the time, Bette rushed to change clothes and finish getting ready.  Kit had Madie with her so the house could be readied for the party and they were not due back for another half hour, but Tina was due with Pete the pup any minute.

     

    The knock on the door echoed down the hall just as the brunette was emerging from her bedroom; triggering an excited tempo of thoughts and heart.  Before this day was done, Bette resolved, she would ask Tina on a date and tend to the seed Vera had planted. 

     

    Closing in on the door separating her from the blonde of her dreams, Bette paused for a beat to adjust her posture to her full height, take in a deep breath, and unconsciously run her palms across the hips of her jeans.  Composure gained, she reached to open the door.

     

    After knocking, Tina ran a quick brush of her hand over Anthony’s busy hair.  She had managed to convince her son that they would not be swimming during the party and the orange swim trunks under his white varsity shorts would not be necessary.  In turn, Anthony won the debate over the yellow and purple bowtie.  He explained that the neckwear was his only item of clothing with the color purple and had insisted he needed to wear Madie’s favorite color to her party just as Pete had to be adorned with a purple ribbon.

     

    Stripe shirt was replaced with a pale yellow oxford and the blazer was set aside.  Tina mentally questioned  how many boys his age, or years older for that matter, put such thought into the detail of their appearance.  She was pretty sure her mother, the giver of the outrageous tie, had been this morning’s influence.  Shaking her thoughts to return to the mission at hand, Tina caught Bette’s eyes with a grin when the door opened.
