    Chapter 9 – Party Animal

     

    “Hi…” Bette greeted, meeting the eyes of the blonde executive, trying desperately not to allow her gaze to drop to the hint of cleavage Tina’s white blouse offered. 

     

    “Hi.”  Tina replied widening her smile.

     

    “Hi, Miss Bette!”  Anthony piped up from his mother’s side with abundant enthusiasm, his biggest smile, and raised arms for a hug.

     

    The tall brunette reached down and lifted Anthony up for a hug with effortless grace.  Tina focused on her son intently as he wrapped his arms around Bette’s neck.  The little boy leaned in with his heart-melting smile, then closed his eyes and visibly inhaled.  Tina bit back her laugh and made a mental note to tell the brunette about little Anthony’s fondness to her fragrance having picked up on the consistent maneuver by the four-year-old when hugging Bette.

     

    “Oh such a sweet hug… and just what I needed.”   Bette said to Anthony’s delight.  He beamed and giggled, absolutely elated by Miss Bette’s praise.  She placed him down on his own two feet beside her over the threshold and smiled down looking at Tina’s son.  “Don’t you look handsome today!”  She said with a wink.

     

    “Thank you.” Anthony said proudly, remembering his manners. 

     

    “Is the coast clear?”  Tina asked with a gesture of her thumb pointing over her shoulder to her SUV where Pete was waiting for placement in his new home.

     

    It took Bette a moment to comprehend the gesture, but she quickly recovered.  “Oh! Yes! Madie is with my sister Kit, so…” stepping forward a half step, “let me give you a hand.”  She offered.

     

    Tina walked the short distance to her vehicle as Bette followed in line behind her.  Like herself, the blonde wore fitted blue jeans and the gallery owner expressed a reverent sigh for the view three steps in front of her.  Anthony’s voice behind her broke her increasingly naughty thoughts.

     

    “I told Pete all about Madie.”  He announced matter-of-factly. 

     

    Bette slowed her pace for Anthony to catch up then replied; “You did?” Said fully amused by his report.

     

    “Yep!”  Anthony confirmed reaching for Bette’s hand.

     

    “Yes ma’am.”  Tina gently corrected from the rear door to the SUV.

The writing is so great…as we hear the dialoque and witness the inner minds talking. Love Anthony…use to live in TX, now on the west coast…miss the “yes Ma’am” politeness.
