    Chapter 9 – Party Animal

     

    “Madie, this is Pete, and he has been waiting to meet you.”

     

    Madie reached out with her left hand and gripped her mommy’s shoulder, gathering the loose material of Bette’s shirt in a tight fist.  Her right hand tentatively pat Pete’s head and back. “Hi, Pete.”  She said to the pup as her astonished expression grew into the biggest smile in her Porter smile repertoire. 

     

    “Is he going to live with us?”  She whispered, stilling her petting motion in wait for an answer.

     

    “Yes, sweetie, he’s going to live with us…”Bette spoke softly, and feeling Madie released her shirt she added.  “That is if you think four is old enough to help care for him?”

     

    “Oh yes mommy, I will take extra good care of him…”  She said bringing her left hand up to pet the puppy with both hands.  “May I hold him?”  She asked trying to grip the pup around his belly.

     

    Tina had moved with the camera to capture the birthday girl’s reaction and mentally wished she hand recruited help to have a second camera on Bette.  When Bette instructed Madie to sit beside her to receive Pete in her lap, Tina adjusted her position to finally get a full front shot of mother and daughter.

     

    Kit had been enjoying the scene unfold of not only her niece’s reaction but of her sister’s handling of the pup.  She was amazed Bette was so at ease with Pete, ‘Where did that come from?,’ she thought to herself.  When the blonde executive moved in front of Bette and Madie, Kit took close notice of her for the first time.

     

    ‘So this is the woman baby sis is a mess over?’  Kit thought examining Tina’s profile.  ‘Umm hmm… she’s got that little butt sis likes… needs more meat on it if you ask me.’ 

     

    Bette had set Pete gently in Madie’s lap and as he had done with her, the pup sprang into lick mode.  Madie giggled and laughed from the tickling affection.  Anthony moved closer in and sat on his knees on the other side of Miss Bette, creating a semicircle of attention on Pete.  He laughed with his friend at the hyper pup.
