    Forever Friends Ch. 26

“It’s okay.  I was just emailing a few ideas to my editor.”  Alice said as she shutdown and closed her laptop.

Dana rubbed the sleep out of her eyes and focused her attention on Alice again.  “What time is it?”

    “3:15”

“Shit Alice!”  Dana sat up on the edge of the bed.  “Why didn’t you wake me up?  We have to be at The Planet in forty-five minutes.”  Dana began to rise from the bed, but Alice was there in front of her.

Alice placed her hands on Dana’s shoulders preventing her from standing.  “Relax Dane.  I talked to Shane and told her we wouldn’t be there today, but we would try to stop by tomorrow after your doctor’s appointment.”

“What?”  Dana was shocked and confused.  “Alice you look forward to Thanksgiving every year.  You love when everyone gets together for dinner and sits around talking.  So let’s get ready and go to dinner.”

“No Dane.”  Alice’s voice had a serious tone to it, trying to leave no room for an argument.  “You are not feeling good and I don’t want you to overdo it.”

“Al I’m okay.”  Dana attempted to stand, but didn’t have the strength to on her own and fell back to the bed.  Dana sat there in silence staring at her feet.

“What’s wrong?”  Alice knew something was bothering Dana though she had no idea what.

“Please let’s go have Thanksgiving at The Planet with everyone.”  Dana was practically begging.

“You don’t even have the strength to get out of bed on your own.  I am not going to let you go to The Planet and use all of the strength you do have.  We can stay home tonight and see everyone tomorrow.  Everyone understands and is fine with it.”

“Please Alice.”  Dana continued to look at the floor and bed Alice to go to dinner.

“Dana what is going on?”  Alice placed her fingers lightly below Dana’s chin and lifted her chin to see the tears forming in Dana’s eyes.

“Please let’s go to The Planet!  You never miss Thanksgiving dinner with everyone and I am not going to let you miss today because of me.  If you don’t want me to go then I will stay home, but you are going!”  Dana’s frustration gave her the strength to stand on her own and she walked toward the bathroom with her walker.  “Just go!”  She shouted at Alice as she slammed the bathroom door shut.
