Carmen refused to leave Shanes side so Stacey worked it out with her Team and the nurses. Whit and Bette made plans while they waited for Tina and Stacey. Whit took Stacey home making up something about having to drop off a report at work. Bette left after seeing Tina safely in and asking Kit to stay a bit longer. Saying they needed some milk from the store for in the morning. Then she left and met Whit at the park down the street after getting the milk.

Whit: Listen Bette. I dont have to tell you how ***** mad I am. I know damn well this was no accident and you know it too. Now who the ***** has it out for you? Candace, Helena, someone else? Think Bette! Has anything unusual happened? Phone call, messages, threats, notes, anything?

Bette: Whit I cant think of anything. Tina and I have been so happy this past year. I cant imagine why anyone would do this.

Whit: Who drives the SUV more? Did anyone know you would have it today? Anything like that. Help me out here Porter. I scared shitless for you and I dont get that way. Someone tried to hurt or kill you buddy. It just happen to be Shane instead. It could have been either one of you with the kids in that thing when the brakes went out. That scares the ***** out of me. You guys are my family besides Stacey. I cant let anything happen to you.

Bette: I know Whit and I am trying really I am. I just dont remember any threats or problems. Everything has been so good for Tina and me since I recovered from that last surgery.

About the time Whits police radio went off, Bettes cell phone rang. Parked side by side but facing opposite directions neither heard the others conversations. All of a sudden Whit took off telling Bette to stay put.

Whit was responding to a 911 call reporting a prowler in the back yard at Bette and Tinas. Whit didnt want Bette getting in the way. Whit was going to catch this son of a ***** for trying to kill her family. She just knew it had to be the same person. ***** what were the odds. It had to be and she was going to get him. As Whit got close to the house she called in on her police radio that she had arrived on scene. She cut her lights off and drove a bit closer then parked.

Whit dialed Tina from her cell phone. Tina, its me Whit. I am out side the house working my way around the back yard. I want you to go into the babys room, lock the door and do not open for anyone but me. Do you hear me! Yes, Tina whispered. Whit I’m frightened. I saw someone standing by the garden shed.

Whit: Tina please just stay locked in until I come for you please. I need to hang up now. Please honey stay calm I’m here. I’m hanging up now.

Whit continued around the back of the house with her gun drawn. She knew backup was coming but was to far away. She was pissed to ***** and wanted this guy. Quietly opening the back wooded gate she slid inside the back yard. She had the advantage. She knew this yard inside and out. Standing very still she listened for any sound while her eyes adjusted to the darkness. She waited. She knew hed move. Hed make a sound and then shed have him.

Out of the darkness Whit heard a woman scream from inside the house and ran across the back yard to the patio. She got to the patio door and was about to kick it in when she saw it was Bette standing there with Kit and Tina at the babys door.

AH *****!! Whit turned around as she heard the sound of an automatic handgun being racked back to fire. As she turned she saw Bette running to the door let her in. Whit continued turning to face the sound drawing her gun to meet it. Two maybe three shots rang out.

After the shots Kit ran back into the Twins room when they started crying frightened by the gun shots. Bette saw the prowler fall dead to the ground as she reached the door. She was about to unlock the door and go out when Tina screamed for Bette from the babys room not to leave her. Bette told Tina its ok. Hes dead. I saw him fall. Tina ran to her wife begging her not to go outside. Tina baby calm down it ok. Whits out there. She got him.

Bette stepped just outside the open door. Whit!! Whit!!! Are you ok? Tina standing at the door, Bette motioned for her to stay. Whit stood frozen. Bette took a step towards Whit calling out to her. As Whit slowly turned around her gun fell from her left hand. Whit took a step towards Bette then fell to her knees, blood pouring out of her abdomen.

Oh my god Tina she been shot!! Call 911!! Just as sudden as Tina turned for the phone they both heard Police Officers screaming at them to freeze and raise their hands in the air. Dont move yelled another cop standing closer. Bette raised her hands and started yelling its Sgt. Whit. She been shot. She needs help. Call an ambulance please Bette screamed at them. Officer Cruz standing there noticed it was in fact Whit and called in on her radio. OFFICER DOWN!! OFFICER DOWN!! We have an Officer down at this location. We need rescue now.

Bette motioned at Cruz that the prowlers body was over by the shed. Officers approached the area with caution. Officer Cruz came back over to Bette and Tina who had been allowed to go to Whit.

Cruz: Ms. Porter. Theres no one there. No body, nothing. Are you sure Whit got him. Theres no sign of blood or anything.

Bette just sat there holding Whit in her arms. Tina was holding towels over the wound to stop the bleeding. They both looked up at Cruz. I saw him fall after the shots rang out. I saw him fall Bette repeated.

Bette felt Whits body go limp in her arms. Hang in there Whit. Youre going to be ok buddy. Youve got a kid on the way. Come on Whit. Please buddy dont leave us. You cant leave Stacey she loves you so much. Please Whit hang on. Help is coming. I hear them coming Whit. Bette said crying holding best her.

Whit was rushed to the hospital. Officer Cruz started to leave to go pick up Stacey. Bette said, NO!! You cant do that. She cant see you at her door. She cant see a uniform shell think Whits dead. I promised Whit Id never let that happen. Tina and I will go get her. Well meet you there. This now became an investigation of possibly two counts of attempted murder. Shane now Whit. Officer Cruz agreed and left officers there at the house with Kit and the children while she left for the hospital. Officer Cruz needed Whit to wake up. Wake up just long enough to tell Cruz what she saw.

Bette and Tina picked up Stacey telling her that it was about Shane and they needed her. Once in the ER Bette told Stacey the truth. Whit had been shot and was being treated in trauma 2. Bette apologized for lying to her friend, but thought it best to tell her in the ER around help in case something happen to her or the baby.

Bette and Tina waited as the doctor took Stacey back to see Whit. They had the bleeding under control but Whit was going to need surgery to remove the bullet. Officer Cruz arrived walking over to Bette.

Cruz: Ms. Porter, Ms. Kennard. I know this is a bad time, but it is very important that I get a statement from you both. I have officers staying at your home until we get back there. So dont worry about your family. But the sooner I get your statement the sooner we may know what to look for. They finished giving Officer Cruz their statements just as Stacey walked out.

Whit was moved to the O.R., so Stacey came out to get them so they could move upstairs and wait. Tina stayed with Stacey while Bette checked on Shane. Carmen was asleep with her head on Shanes bed holding her hand. Bette didnt want to wake them. She didnt know how she could explain two of her closest friends almost being killed in one night. And Whit was still not out of the wood yet. Now Bette was pissed off. Someone was trying to kill her and her family.

Bette made one phone call from the Nurses Station near Shanes room before rejoining Tina and Stacey. Tina sat on one side of Stacey and Bette the other. Dr. Berry for the second time tonight was about to approach her friend and co-worker. Only this time Dr. Berry knew this was Staceys wife. This had been Staceys one fear. Her one reason for putting Whit off at first when she ask Stacey to marry her. Stacey loved Whit so much. She just wasnt sure she could face the possibility of Whit being hurt or killed every time she went to work. Now she sat waiting. Her worst fear come true.

Seeing Dr. Berry walking towards them, Stacey held her hand on their precious unborn child. She tightened her grip on Tinas hand with her other. Bette sat with her arm around Stacey on the other side. Immediately Dr. Berry smiled and said Whits going to be just fine Stacey. The bullet missed all vital organs. She has no internal damage Stacey to anything other than the entry wound itself and some tissue damage. The blood loss made it look worse than it was. We had no way of knowing until we got in there to remove the bullet but shes going to be just fine.

They all breathed out a sigh of relief. Hugging and holding each other Stacey raised her head and thanked Dr. Berry. Officer Cruz walked up as Dr. Berry was about to leave. Cruz had been paged that Whit was out of surgery and came to retrieve the bullet as evidence. Stacey told Cruz the update on Whit. Shes going to be just fine. Cruz quickly got on her radio and pass the word. Every Officer available had been called in on the search around Bette and Tinas neighborhood. Attempted murder of a Police Officer had them all on high alert. Someone was out there that had no problem shooting a cop.

Cruz had questions that still remained. One was why did Whit respond without her vest on? She knew better. ***** she had trained Cruz. That vest was always a part of her body on a call. As soon as Whit woke up Cruz had to get some answers. The only information Cruz had so far was that Whits gun had been fired twice, called a double tap. She now had the bullet from the doctor, but no gun to match it to. Bettes statement that the prowler was shot and went done, but no blood or a body. Just footprints in the garden dirt.

Next morning.

Still nervous and upset from the night before Tina nearly jumped out of her skin when the doorbell rang. Bette walking past Tina said Ill get it honey. Its for me. Bette opened the door and there stood Charles, Peggys giant of a body guard with several other huge men.

Bette: Please come in Charles. Thank you for coming so soon.

Charles: Mrs. Peabody wanted us her last night Ms. Porter but the police wouldnt let us near the house. We have actually been down the street until the Police left just now.

Bette: Would you like some coffee Charles? Please join me in the kitchen. Tina is getting ready for work so we need to talk fast before I have to feed the twins.

Charles: Yes, I heard Ms. Kennard had twins. That is so wonderful.

Bette: Yes, it was a shock at first, but we are extremely happy.

Tina: Charles, what a surprise to see you here. Ok what exactly are you doing here?

Bette: Tina, honey. I called Peggy while Whit was in surgery last night. I told her what was going on and that I needed to protect my family. So Charles and his team of bodyguards have been here since last night. They will remain until this person is caught.

Tina: I.. I just cant believe this is happening. Bette who is doing this. Why now? We have been drama free for over a year now and all of a sudden its like all ***** is breaking loose again.

Bette: Tina, I have no idea why this is happening. Honestly thats what I was doing last night when you called me on my cell phone about the prowler. Whit and I were at the park discussing all this. Now its my fault Whit got shot.

Tina: Bette how could you be to blame?

Bette: Whit told me to stay put and I didnt. After you called I had to get to you and my babies. Whit would have never run to the door if I hadnt made Kit scream.

Tina: Oh baby its not your fault. Theres some crazy person out there that did this.

Charles: I must agree with Ms. Kennard. Which is why I will be with you at all times. I need to know you work schedule Ms. Kennard and yours Ms. Porter.

Bette: Charles please call me Bette.

Tina: Yes Charles. I think we know each other well enough from the ice pack for you to call me Tina. (giggling)

Charles: Will Tina, Bette I have a list of things we need to go over. For one you are not to touch your vehicle before one of my men has checked it over. Once we are in place no one will be allowed near it or the house. Tina you are never to leave my sight. I will not interfere with your work or every day life but I will be there constantly.

Bette: I think for now that is a perfect plan.

Charles: Bette Joe will be assigned to you as well as another guard for the Twins. The same goes for you. Do not leave Joes sight. We will be of no use to you if you do not follow my instruction. Do we agree.

Bette and Tina both answered yes. With that said Tina left for work with Charles.

Officer Cruz was at the hospital first thing when Whit woke up. Stacey had been sent home because of her pregnancy. Walking into the room Cruz could see her mentor, her training Officer now her partner looking so weak and pale.

Cruz: Hey Whit how are you feeling?

Whit: Like a stupid jackass. Go on say it.

Cruz: Say what?

Whit: Where the ***** was my vest, right.

Cruz: Yea well that did cross my mind Ms. I never go anywhere with out it. All the times you made me wear it even off duty until it became a second skin. What the ***** Whit.

Whit: My family was in danger Cruz and I didnt stop to think. I just knew that I had to protect them. Other than Stacey and you, theyre all Ive got. I know now how stupid that was.

Cruz: Yea but thank god youre ok.

Whit: So who was the ***** that shot me? I know I nailed his *****.

Cruz: Ah Whit. We didnt find anyone.

Whit: What the ***** do you mean? I double tapped his ***** and saw him drop.

Cruz: He must have been wearing a vest. Whit we didnt even find blood. Just footprints.

Whit: You have got to be shitting me.

Cruz: I ***** you not man. Nothing.

Whit: So what Detective got assigned to the investigation.

Cruz: Clements got it. Shes been at Porters most of the night. She already had Porters SUV and the attempt on Ms. McCutcheon. So seeing both involved Porter. Hey speaking of Bette. Any ideas what the ***** is going on?

Whit: Thats what Bette and I were discussing at the park down from her house last night when this ***** happened.

Cruz: So nothing. She cant think of anyone that could have it out for her. What about that Candace chick? Could she have ties to reach outside of prison?

Whit: Well Id look at her first, but also Helena Peabody. Its a long story but seems she wanted Porters wife. Almost raped her as a matter of fact. Peabody walked away with a broken jaw without getting any. Except the broken jar that is.

Both were laughing at this. Knowing how small and petite Tina is. Neither could imagine Tina breaking someones jaw. Sure hope Porter never pisses that little one off, Cruz said laughing back at Whit. Whit didnt laugh because she knew Bette had felt Tinas wrath twice before.

One month later Whit has recovered from the shooting just in time to welcome her precious son into the world. Stacey was in labor 36 hours and poor Whit knew it big time. The way Whits hand felt she almost wished shed been shot again. At least she was given drugs for that pain. It didnt last long though once she held her adorable son. It had all been worth it. Even a broken hand. Well almost broken.. They named their son Joshua and called him Josh. Taking her lovely wife and son home Whit couldnt get rid of that huge grin on her face or the way she held her shoulders back and stood so tall. Tina and the gang had thrown Stacey a wonderful baby shower and they got everything they could ever need. Especially with Whit not able to shop.

Back at the Kennard-Porter home.

Tina had left with Charles for work. Bette was in the pool with the twins. And a lot of help from Joe. He was such a bush over to be over 200 lbs. and 62. Swimming with lil Amy Jo in his arms made her look so much smaller. Bette was talking to Joe about having to go into work tomorrow as lil’ JT floated around in circles being pulled by his Mom. These kids are going to be natural when they get older. I cant believe they took to water like this Joe said.

Tinas Office.

Tina was rushing through paper work she had to get done when her office door flew open. Charles jumped to his feet from Tinas couch and stepped in front of the person stopping their advancement. I’m sorry Ms. Peabody, but you cant just barge in like that. Charles said as he stood his ground to his employers daughter.

Tina: Charles, its ok. I’m sure I will be safe. You can step outside for a minute. Ill let you know if I need you. (glaring at Helena)

Helena: Christina my dear, what in the world are you doing with Charles here?

Tina: We had a bit of trouble and Bette borrowed them from your Mother Helena. Now what can I help you with. Im rather busy.

Helena: Oh yes. I heard you hard some trouble with your vehicle and a shooting at your home. Seems misery follows Bette every where now doesnt.

Tina jumping up to her feet but holding her anger in check as she walked around the front of her desk towards Helena.

Tina: Helena I’m sorry but I do not have time to chit chat with you.

Helena: Tina darling, Actually you do have time. If youll be so kind as to check with your assistant you will see that I am your next appointment.

Helena: (stepping closer to Tina) Please Tina. I only want to apologize for what happened between us. I never meant to harm you. I’m use to having woman beg me for my attention. Please forgive me for my behavior. I wanted you so badly. Unlike the others I felt something special for you. Please forgive. (caressing her right hand on the side of Tinas cheek.

Tina: Helena please, dont. (closing her eyes)

Helena: Tina you now you felt something for me. Please do not deny it. Embrace it Darlin. I feel so much for you too.

Tina opened her eyes and came back to her senses as she felt Helena press her body against Tinas. Shoving Helena backwards Tina yelled for Charles.

Tina: Charles please see Ms. Peabody out. She was just leaving.

Helena: Tina this is not finished between us.

Tina: Charles!

Charles escorted Helena out side of the building to her limo.

Helena: So Charles. It appears you are doing your job well.

Charles: Thank you Ms. Peabody. Have a nice day.

Helena: Why yes Charles. I think I will now that I know things are going as well as planned. Good bye.

Charles shook his head and walked back in to check on Tina. With everything ok he sat back down in his chair and fell back to sleep while Tina worked. If she left the office even for the ladies room he heard her. Nothing got past him. Hopefully Helena never would again either.
