    Forged in Fire: Chapter 14

“Deal us in,” said Bette. She placed one more kiss on Tina’s forehead before returning to her seat.

She and Tina lost the second game, but as promised, she kissed Tina anyway.

The group eventually separated into two teams to play several rounds of “Heads Up”. In this game, a player used an iPad and held it outward for their team to see. The group would yell out hints to help their team member guess the word. They shared genuine, gasping-for-air, belly laughs as the game progressed.

As the clocked ticked toward midnight, the collective yawns outnumbered the laughs and the framily members split up, heading to their respective rooms. Before she left, Kit’s mother pulled Bette aside and hugged her tightly. She then looked into the beautiful brown eyes and held Bette’s hands in her own.

“You have nothing to feel ashamed about. You have been through 9 levels of hell and triumphed over every one. You hold that head up high. That father of yours is his own worst enemy and you and I both know that. He will get no excuses from me. You are a beautiful woman with a beautiful spirit. And honey, today was just amazing. You gave such a loving tribute. Be proud of yourself and the woman that you are. Okay?”

    Bette grinned shyly. “Thank you.”

Patricia cupped Bette’s chin in a tender, motherly manner. “Every word is true. You have yourself a good night’s sleep. You’ve earned it.”

They hugged once more and before they parted, Bette said softly. “Thank you, Mom. You don’t know how much that means to me.”

When Kit hugged her good-bye, the older sister said with a smile, “Girl, we’ll talk later.”

Bette grinned again and agreed with her.

When she and Tina were finally alone, Bette leaned her back against the door and exhaled slowly. Tina was collecting dishes and placing them in the kitchenette’s sink. Bette extended her arms and pouted until those arms were wrapped around her girlfriend. She inhaled Tina’s soft perfume and let their nearness settle her.

“Thank you, Tina,” Bette said quietly.

“I don’t know how I would have done this without you. And I know it can’t be easy for you. But you put me first. I love you for that.”

She fingered the locket hanging from Tina’s neck, smiling into the soft hazel eyes.

“You gave me your heart, Bette. I’m going to take damned good care of it,” said Tina.

Bette kissed her softly. “I wouldn’t doubt it for a second. Leave everything. You’ve had a rough couple of days, too. Let’s just go to bed.”

Tina nodded and let her girlfriend lead her to the bedroom.

They lay naked in bed together, sharing one pillow, the room cloaked in darkness. Bette’s thigh was nestled in between Tina’s legs and their bodies were close, they were breast-to-breast.

Tina kissed her lover’s lips. She savored the feel of her girlfriend’s mouth, letting her tongue gently graze Bette’s tongue. She hadn’t told Bette about her confrontation with Davis Shah and his threat of dismissal. She had stuck to her guns, refusing to leave Bette. She’d sent him an email restating her position and had yet to hear from him. It was something they could discuss later.

And for Tina, there was no amount of money or prestige that would keep her away from the woman in her arms. The world had conspired against them before to keep them separated. And once again, the world would fail.

“I love you, too. There’s no place else I would be,” she said.

Bette snuggled up to her, burying her head against Tina’s bare chest, content to hear the soothing metronome of her girlfriend’s heartbeat. In a few moments, she fell asleep. Tina kissed her forehead and exhaled contentedly.

    1. Thank you for the chapter!

So, Tina’s work is still in suspended, interesting how it could be solved.

And Bette – sometimes she still little girl when she close to her father. Good that Tina was there to protect her.

    2. Thank you, MTS, you definitely found the perfect solution for Tina. Be there for Bette. Everything else can wait. And she needed Tina so much. Loved how in the church Bette’s eyes were looking for Tina’s to find strength there.

I’m curious to see what will change for Bette now that she found closure. Will she be more sure of Tina’s love? Will she be able to make serious plans for their future?

And then – drum roll – Jedi Master Tina strikes again: points for giving Melvin a roasting! I’m sure he didn’t know what hit him. Melvin, that sorry excuse for a father. I love it when Protective-Alpha-Tina comes out to play.

Thank you for that second posting, MTS. You’ve taken good care of B + T in this crucial moment of their relationship. Now I can put my mind to rest, leave Tina and Bette alone for the night and go to sleep ;-)

      Enjoy your Sunday, stay safe

    3. Thanks for returning quickly for this and also for writing a chapter where I am able to hate Melvin once more! Keep reading stories where he’s nice,

Seriously thank you for continuing with this story and can I request that Tina now kicks some ass!

      Stay safe

    4. Tina chose Bette over work….excellent. My bets are that David will not fire her. He definitely has too much to lose.

I cannot believe that Melvin was such an asshole. Does he not know that addiction is a disease not a weakness. They fact is that the real strength comes in the form of resisting that what you are addicted to when every fiber of your being is telling you to partake. And the fact is that the tendency to be an addict is inherited.. Since Bette and Kit share the same father but not the same mom, it would lead one to believe that Melvin is responsible for their addiction in that he pass the gene to them. He should be proud of his daughters in that they have faced their addiction and have taken steps not to be controlled by it. Chastising his adult daughter does not help anyone.

Thanks for this chapter…. I want to see how David responds on Monday morning.

      Look forward to more…..

      • Melvin is definitely a rigid man who greatly lacks emotional intelligence. And you are right…the apple of addiction usually doesn’t fall too far from the addict-apple-tree.

Looking forward to see if Tina’s boss will chill out.

    5. Wow lots of 0f ups and downs in last few chapters. Sounds like Kit’s mom had the best voice of soothing. Tina was protective but I feel Tina should have came earlier or Bette should have walked out the second she heard his tone change.. Great chapter thank you.

      • BnT! Yes…Kit’s mom is a calming voice of reason. She’s had many years to try and sugar coat Melvin’s BS for her daughter. So she’s the mistress of good news and soft landings. (just made those words up together…i hope it sounds good).

And yes…Bette should have walked out or at least, defended herself. But that’s what happens a lot in toxic parent-child relationships. People revert. Or even if they’re not toxic.

Like…I’m a grown ass woman…but I’m home with my family on Easter…I’m getting an Easter basket.

        • So she’s the mistress of good news and soft landings.
Nice!.. lol I believe mistress have soft landings lol but not all have good news ????????????

Easter basket huh.. you like that chocolate bunny?.. your like my daughter still wishes for all those little things from childhood. There soothing. I dont really reminder any comfy things from childhood to really want now. But I’m glad my daughter does. Thank you and stay safe my friend.
