Bette looked over her shoulder and sure enough her young friend was standing behind her carrying a paper bag.

“Just thinking of happier times.” Bette said as she ran her hands down her neck trying to calm herself down.

“I can see that. Would those happier times include a cute blonde we both know?” Shane asked.

Bette looked down and nodded and ran her fingers through her thick curls.

“So, what are you going to do about it?”

    “Swim,” Bette said plainly.

    Shane nodded.

    “What’s in the bag?”

    “Dinner,” Shane said plainly.

    Bette nodded.

Shane noticed the empty yogurt container on the table, next to a small plate with remnants of fruit and cheese. Shane was happy Bette had been eating on a more consistent basis. She was glad Tina threatened her and Kit about making sure Bette was eating. It was working. Plus, Shane didn’t have a clue about what “or else” meant but she didn’t want to ruffle the little blonde’s feathers. Shane remembered how protective Tina was of Bette. Shane acknowledged internally Bette even looked healthier. This made her happy. She cared deeply for Bette and she hated seeing her torture herself.

“The garden looks great,” Shane said as Bette cut off the water hose.

“Thanks. It’s getting there. I am pleased with how it’s progressing so far.”

Bette didn’t try to stop the tears from falling.

“Want me to stay?” Shane asked gently.

Bette nodded and walked towards the pool. Shane sat on one of the loungers and watched her friend swim through her demons. She called for reinforcements.

Alice and Dana arrived with a couple of pizzas.

“How long has she been in there?” Dana asked.

    “About 45 minutes.”

“She’s got about another 45 to go before she even thinks about getting out,” Alice said.

They stared at their friend as she did lap after lap.

“What are we going to do?” Shane asked.

“I’ve got to get James not to go to Vancouver next week,” Alice whispered. “Apparently, KiKi has a plan but Bette has to be the one to go for it to work.”

“How are you going to get James not to go? The last time I talked to him, he said he was staying out of it,” Dana said.

    1. Good chapter… Bette getting the garden into shape and being with her friends….

Love making memories exciting except I do not like the choking stuff….. That is just damn scary to me… That causes panic …. and asking if they trust you is not permission to shut down their air supply…. Not a good move for Tina… And if you have any breathing disorder, this would be beyond acceptable. Sorry… not cool at all. And not a trust building move…

      Thanks for the chapter…
