    Friends ch. 22b

“Baby come with me, I want you to check this chick out,” Ariana said tugging Bette along.

“Giving me permission to check chicks out, nice,” Bette kidded. Ariana smiled and led her to the tennis courts at the school and they sat and watched the entire match. As the match ended Bette was blown away at this undiscovered talent.

    “Wow, who is that?”

“Dana Fairbanks. She’s the school’s star tennis player and she’s trying to get into this tournament that could put her on the road to U.S. Open.”

“Unbelievable, can we go talk to her?”

“Sure. I don’t think she’d mind,” Ariana said and they walked over to Dana. Dana was packing her things in her bag as the coach was talking to her. They walked up and Dana looked up surprised.

“Dana that was a fantastic match!”

“Thanks Ari, I was really nervous,” she said then looked at Bette, “hey.”

“Hello, I’m Bette Porter, and I just wanted to say that I think you’re brilliant.”

“Well thanks. If you think so then you should make a donation to the ‘Dana Fairbanks wants to go to the U.S. Open’ fund,” Dana kidded and laughed.

“I’d love to, where can I send a check?”

“I was, I was just kidding,” Dana stuttered and felt guilty for asking for a donation.

“No I’m being serious. That’s why I came over here. I wanted to make a solid investment in your skills.”

“Are you serious,” Dana asked looking from Bette to Ariana then to Bette again.

“Yes, I believe that if you’re good enough that someone will find you and help you to be someone greater. All I want to do is help.”

And help she did. Dana had enough money to go to the U.S. Open where she made a name for herself as a rising star in the tennis world. Bette’s gallery also sponsored Dana and as a result her revenue went up. Dana continued her education at Harvard and stayed in close contact with Bette who became a very close and dear friend to her. Bette decided to throw her a big birthday party, for her twenty-first birthday. Bette had arranged everything calling all her friends and close family and everything was as it should be. Ariana couldn’t be there because of work, but Bette didn’t mind, their relationship was going downhill. They both wanted different things which led to a lot more arguments. The party went off amazingly and Dana was surprised. While there, Bette mingled with some of the people there, she didn’t really know anyone so she made her way around the room. But there was one woman there, a blond that caught her eye. They had been making eye contact all night.
