    Friendship Foundation Chapter 17

    Chapter 17

Tina knocked on the door to Eric’s apartment. She heard the call to enter from inside.

”You didn’t have to call up,” Eric said. ”I knew you were bringing the keys over.”
He was sitting at the dining room table, surrounded by papers, pen poised over a legal note pad.

”I thought it would be the polite thing to do,” Tina replied.

He set the pen down and pushed his chair back before standing.

”As far as I know your things are just in that one dresser drawer, and on the right side of the closet,” he said. ”There are a couple of solid grocery bags that I left on the bed for you to use.”
It hadn’t occurred to Tina to bring something to pack her things into. She was entirely focused on the key exchange. It was just like Eric to have thought of it though.

”I read about the trial in Friday’s trades,” Tina said. ”Congratulations on the settlement.”
”Big professional coup,” Eric replied. ”Too bad my personal life isn’t matching the success of my professional life right now.”

”I…don’t know what to say,” Tina said. ”There’s never a good time for a break up.”
”Was David Fisher in New York with you for the meetings?” Eric asked.

Tina wasn’t sure where this question had come from. Eric knew David would be involved in the talks for the studio merger. Of course he was there.
”David was there,” Tina started. ”As well as Edward, Nadine from Documentaries and all the senior board members.”

”It’s just that…things were going so well for us when I saw you last,” Eric started. ”You go to New York with David and I get a call that you’re not happy.”
”Eric, I didn’t go to New York with David,” Tina said. ”It wasn’t some clandestine rendezvous. He and I are colleagues. We worked our asses off and didn’t see each other outside of meetings with a dozen other people.”
    ”So there’s no one else?”

    Tina paused before continuing.

”I haven’t met another man,” Tina said. ”That’s not what this break up is about.”
”I can’t help but notice your carefully chosen words,” Eric said. ”Which brings up another possibility that I haven’t been able to ignore.”

    1. Wow they just ripped that bandaid right off huh? I wonder if that will be the end of Eric or will he show up at the artist dinner and cause a scene. I tell you I breeze thru these 3/4 pages quick. Ever thought of a 100 page chapter. For real though grateful for you posting when you can. I love this story!

    2. I love the pace you are taking this relationship. They both need to take there time and Tina needs to be sure she can accept the feelings she is having. Thanks for the post. Can’t wait for the next one. Have a great weekend.

    3. Your daughter is quite the charmer and knows her way to a woman’s heart! Things are moving along swimmingly. I’m singing “Getting to know you, getting to know all about you…” in my head right now, but I might be adding some new phrases to the song. Maybe, Bette should bring over The King and I for movie night! Usually, I find necking on the couch preferable to work, unless the person can’t kiss. : )

    4. I could never anticipate that what you write would cause ennui. That last interaction betwixt Bette and Tina was certainly on the opposite scale… Thanks for posting. Bon week-end! :)

    5. I come for the stories about your daughter, your wit and banter…the story…well that’s another story. Recipes huh? Try the white bean and pasta soup. I’m thinking of a song from the Sound of Music…somewhere in my youth or childhood, I must have done something good…making out on the couch, that’s always a good thing. “The promise of a modest amount of shared affection was inherent to Bette’s suggestion of one last walk before they were on their way.” I didn’t think that all they were going to I was hold hands. “The promise of a few stolen kisses was inherent to Bette’s suggestion.” But I like the “few stolen kisses” descriptor. Thanks for the update Swimmie.

    6. Thank you swimmie for another interesting chapter. Thank you for changing the pace to slow it down a little. Sometimes I think we get caught up in the fast-food mentality in everything and it just doesn’t work. This morning a friend of mine wrote this: “It seems to me that as humans, what we want most is to feel connected, to feel close, and to be truly known. At the same time, what we fear most is to feel connected, to feel close, and to be truly known.” As humans we spend more time constructing barriers to keep us from what we want most. We are just silly humans. SO, I love that you slowed down to develop a relationship between them for a strong foundation. I wish most people in relationships would do that and they just might last longer. Anyway, enough from my soapbox. You are a tremendously wonderful writer, so thank you for sharing your stories.
