Friendship Foundation Chapter 17
Story written on January 24, 2013 by justkeepswimming.
Tina could feel the heat rise in her face. Deniability was starting to slip from her grasp.
”You’ve been spending a lot of time with a particular person lately,” Eric continued. ”I even joked to one of my buddies at work that I thought you might have a girl crush.”
Tina couldn’t trust herself to speak. She was shocked that Eric had leapt to this conclusion and didn’t know what to say. It’s the last thing she expected to be talking about this afternoon.
”That’s it, isn’t it?” Eric asked. ”Outside of work, you’ve been spending every spare moment with Bette. Did she go to New York with you?”
”Eric, no she didn’t come to New York,” Tina was on the defensive and the conversation had barely started. Had she really been that obvious about her feelings for Bette?
”But you’re not denying it,” Eric sighed. ”Have you even been with a woman before?”
”That’s not something I’m prepared to discuss with you,” Tina said. ”You’re hurt and angry. I understand you want to lash out at me.”
”You’ve been sneaking around behind my back?” Eric asked. ”I never thought you would be that person. I thought you would do what’s right. And I certainly didn’t think Bette was that kind of person.”
”There’s nothing going on between us,” Tina raised her voice to counter his judgmental tone. ”I don’t know if anything will ever happen, but the feelings I was having for her made me realize the feelings I wasn’t having for you.”
He slumped back into the chair he’d been sitting in.
”That’s kind of harsh,” Eric’s head was bowed towards the table as he spoke.
”It’s the truth, Eric.”
Sometimes, the truth hurts.
Tina had lowered her voice again, but she was no less upset. Her carelessness could put Bette in an awkward situation with respect to her professional relationship with Eric. She quickly realized she was falling into the same old pattern. Worrying about other people instead of focusing on herself. Bette had contributed in no small part to the situation and she could deal with the repercussions from her perspective.
”Wait, what about Bette’s girlfriend?” Eric asked, looking up again. ”You’re interested in someone who’s already in a relationship. You realize that don’t you?”

Wow they just ripped that bandaid right off huh? I wonder if that will be the end of Eric or will he show up at the artist dinner and cause a scene. I tell you I breeze thru these 3/4 pages quick. Ever thought of a 100 page chapter. For real though grateful for you posting when you can. I love this story!
Yes!! This is wonderful! I do not know how to say it in French or sign language though.
I do love your ANs due to your sparkling wit, charming and clever banter. The story is just a bonus. ;-)
I love the pace you are taking this relationship. They both need to take there time and Tina needs to be sure she can accept the feelings she is having. Thanks for the post. Can’t wait for the next one. Have a great weekend.
C’est merveilleux (but I had to use google translator!)
Awesome update. Thanks
Your daughter is quite the charmer and knows her way to a woman’s heart! Things are moving along swimmingly. I’m singing “Getting to know you, getting to know all about you…” in my head right now, but I might be adding some new phrases to the song. Maybe, Bette should bring over The King and I for movie night! Usually, I find necking on the couch preferable to work, unless the person can’t kiss. : )
I could never anticipate that what you write would cause ennui. That last interaction betwixt Bette and Tina was certainly on the opposite scale… Thanks for posting. Bon week-end! :)
As usual, very interesting chapter, thank you. Enjoy your weekend!
” you come merely for my sparkling wit and insightful author’s notes” – and the recipes ;-D
I come for the stories about your daughter, your wit and banter…the story…well that’s another story. Recipes huh? Try the white bean and pasta soup. I’m thinking of a song from the Sound of Music…somewhere in my youth or childhood, I must have done something good…making out on the couch, that’s always a good thing. “The promise of a modest amount of shared affection was inherent to Bette’s suggestion of one last walk before they were on their way.” I didn’t think that all they were going to I was hold hands. “The promise of a few stolen kisses was inherent to Bette’s suggestion.” But I like the “few stolen kisses” descriptor. Thanks for the update Swimmie.
Again- I love your story, thank you and have a nice weekend.
Love this story, jks! Love your author’s notes, too.
Great update swimmie🐠 thanks ✊😁
Thank you swimmie for another interesting chapter. Thank you for changing the pace to slow it down a little. Sometimes I think we get caught up in the fast-food mentality in everything and it just doesn’t work. This morning a friend of mine wrote this: “It seems to me that as humans, what we want most is to feel connected, to feel close, and to be truly known. At the same time, what we fear most is to feel connected, to feel close, and to be truly known.” As humans we spend more time constructing barriers to keep us from what we want most. We are just silly humans. SO, I love that you slowed down to develop a relationship between them for a strong foundation. I wish most people in relationships would do that and they just might last longer. Anyway, enough from my soapbox. You are a tremendously wonderful writer, so thank you for sharing your stories.
So good
Wonderful update thank you
This is so real world; I like it very much and can relate
very nicely done :)
Eric wouldn’t be much of a lawyer if he didn’t figure out their break-up might be the cause of one Bette Porter. Loving this. Happy weekend!
Thanks jks :-)
