    Chapter 3 – The Mission Statement

    Bette’s proposed new mission in life gets a life of its own

    Jack didnt need to know that Bette had bribed Jackie Heartwell in order to get her to head her foundation. No she didnt bribe her with money or any monetary gains but she bribed her with ideas and visions. It had taken repeated phone calls to even get Jackie to agree to meet Bette. The initial meeting had taken place in Jackies office in New York. During the initial meeting Bette and Jackie clicked. It was one of those occasions where the mutual respect that both women felt came through allowing the mind to begin to fanaticize and wonder just what it would be like to work with the other person. Bette had laid it all on the line with Jackie, sharing her ultimate plan, well up to a point. The passion and intensity with which Bette had perused Jackie impressed her and it was that fire that convinced her to come on board. Ultimately the idea that someone was willing to go to such lengths to improve one familys life but also improve so many more along the way captured Jackies imagination and lead to her decision. She agreed to keep Bettes secret and she saw the value of the foundation. Realizing that Bette was going to chase this dream whether she helped or not, Jackie felt that she could do the most good if she helped. With that she took a year leave from the Rockefeller Foundation and was scheduled to begin at the MYV Foundation with the next two weeks. It helped that Jackie was a graduate of Yale and that there was an alliance of sorts there. Jackie would be more integral to Bettes actual mission. Bette wanted Tina to have the position of Director and in order to make this happen Bette needed Jackies assistance. First Jackie really was one of the best at what she does and Bette wanted her to become Tinas mentor in the area. Surrounding Tina with the best of talent was one way the Bette felt she could improve Tinas life. The second point is that having Jackie run the foundation effectively takes Bette completely out of the equation. Tina must not know of Bettes involvement or even that the Foundation was initiated by Bettes efforts. The only person who truly knows of how deep Bettes involvement is Jack and he has been sworn to secrecy. Each board member had been asked by Jack to participate and while Bette had been involved in securing a few of the members, most had no idea of the level of Bettes involvement. The fact that Bette watched the entire board meeting from Jacks office through a camera meant that the members didnt even know that the ideas and principles that they voted on today originated with Bette.

    3. I think that Tina will definitely take the job as Director, no matter if she was with Helena or not; her passion to help people will definitely overcome being a stay at home mom. Plus Helena will hopefully be booted to the curb soon once Tina knows Bette was there….and yeah, I love this story!!

    6. really amazing. i didn’t post on the one before cause i read them in succession, but i loved the flowers and that tina is still thinking of bette. and i have to agree with seahurst on this chapter, it seems like bette is still trying to control things a little. fantastic story. please post more soon!

    7. Interesting…now that Bette’s pulling some strings, she needs to come out from behind the curtain and speak with Tina, in an unofficial capacity, of course.

    8. I agree with others you may be setting Bette up to be seen as controlling once again – sweet as it is. Love the baby’s name and the fact these two are still so connected and wanting to be.

    10. Okay obviously some people think Bette is being controlling, but her intentions are so amazing. Like Down Low said she is dedicating her life to help Tina’s. I believe as long as she gives Tina the opportunity freely and doesnt expect anything in return why not? And to think that someone loves you that much, wow.

    11. Is Bette controlling Tina’s life still, or is she creating an opportunity for Tina…which, by the way, Tina can turn down if she isn’t interested. For all Bette knows, since Tina is with Helena, she might choose to stay at home, rather than work…so all her efforts might be for naught. Love this story already!

    15. Imagine losing someone, but loving them so much…that you would dedicate your life and your resources to making the rest of their life happy. This beautiful concept just blows me away.
