    Chapter 30 – Illustrating Illusions

Tina was in a hurry to get over to Graces office. She was coming directly from work in the hopes of getting done early enough to see Anna before she went to bed. She had made previous arrangements for Bette to be there with Anna to fill in when Irenes shift was through. It makes Tina feel bad that she could possible go the whole day and not really spend any time with Anna. While she had gotten her up this morning, Irene was really the one who got Anna going this morning and spent the day with her as Tina had to leave earlier than normal in order to take care of this child that Tina had to get squared away at the Center.

Arriving at Graces, Tina could see that Grace was already at work. She had printed out the material that Tina had been emailing her through out the week. It really looks like this grant was taking shape nicely. The idea of Tinas to include the corporate matching sponsorships made the whole project seem so much more important in that it could do so much for the community. Grace had inspired Tina and she found herself working long after she put Anna down for the night.

Grace I see you got all the stuff I sent you last night. Tina says as she enters the conference room.

Tina, yep I got it all. I couldnt believe how much of this stuff you got done. What were you doing sending me emails at 2:30 in the morning? Dont you have an infant that demands your time? Grace says jokingly.

Oh yeah I do but these days Im blessed in that Anna sleeps most the nights through anymore. As Tina picks the question she wanted to answer and ignored the other.

Tina immediately shifted her attention to the task at hand launching into a dilemma that she came across last night and has been on her mind for most of the day. Grace this program is almost taking on a life of its own. This feel good approach for businesses I think is truly a winner. If we can get corporations to donate through different avenues we will really be able to maximize the effect of the grant money. Historically the Center is always asking corporations to donate financially through direct financial contributions but if you think of them donating financially through the indirect approach the impact is tremendous. If we can convince a company to allow us access to their employee to put them on a project of some sort we have succeeded. This project can be anything from cleaning up a playground to teach battered woman computer skills. The thought is still the same. The Center gets access to skilled people we never could afford to hire and the company gets to donate the persons salary for the day. To add to this if the company doesnt have employees with the skill sets or desire to spend a day with us they can donate the materials we need to work with in these projects.

    1. My heart is breaking for Bette=(…I hope everything falls into place soon…::winkwink::…more mush, more mush…hehe…loved this chapter Jwet, I especially love the scenes where Bette is babysitting little Anna=D Kick arse job!! Please update soon!

    2. That is a great idea for the Corporate Grant, i like your thinking… i so wanted Bette to give Tina a hug.
Like the pace of the story and looking forward to the next chapter.
      Thanks.

    3. the end made me sad for bette, to be this close and still be that far. tina’s idea about donating an employees time is totally brillant, do they do this for real? if not they should start to. great job. always excited to see an update.

    4. I’m definitely sure Tina wouldnt mind. But i must say… Bette sure is changing…. and letting Tina makle the move. Thanks Jwet. I love that Bette is able to control herself as much as i want her to take tine in her arms!!!

    5. Loved this story. I think the pace is great. It’s always good to be on the “outside” of your relationship. This gives us a better perspective and a greater appreciation for what you have. Thanks Jwet, you’re one of my favorites!

    6. Come on Bette…grow some balls and grab ur woman up in your arms. Thats what we all want to see. I love this story. I love Bette babysitting and her moments with the baby.

    7. Internal batter between the mind and the heart. I think the heart should win next time – at least I hope so.

      Wo…you do rise early!

      Thanks, Jwet.

    8. Well maybe Tina will start to understand Bette’s struggle to balance work and family as she learns the same thing for herself and Anna. P.S. can you make Bette lose some of her self control….I wanted her to grab Tina so badly!

    9. can understand that Bette’s afraid to reach out to Tina, but sometimes you just have to go with the moment and let your heart rule your head.loving this!

    10. I don’t know what to say. I’ve been reading your story and it parallels my life in so many ways. I’m in love with someone but we had a ‘bad patch’ a few months ago and well we’re trying to rebuild and end up somewhere new. The love is mutual and the connection is undeniable. We’ve been spending more and more time together and at times it’s VERY hard to remember that we’re ‘just friends’for the while. I am always alert in our interactions because I don’t want to scare them and lose what we’ve been able to rekindle. Sometimes my muscles are twitching after our dates because I spend all my time forcing/training them to not reach out and grab hold of the one thing I need. Mind vs heart? For now, I’d have to say mind because I fear if I use my heart too soon, I may send them running and right now any time together is better than none at all. I know and feel the love from them but I’m not sure where they are with respect to having that need to touch. I’ve tried creating mental timelines but then I realise that if I love someone how can I set a deadline? It’s hard but I really think that the only solution is to go for it when the moment is right.
And so, I completely understand the pace of your story. Don’t let anyone else rush you because I know all too well the reality of the situation. Although I must admit that I am somewhat curious as to which one will make the first move? I’m definitely in Bette’s shoes! Maybe that’s a blessing or a curse…who knows!?

    11. Jwet – you little radical progressive you. (Yeah, I like the corporant grant idea.) I feel for Bette at the end. I guess if you’re going to have balking Bette, you need touchy Tina. I just hope you’re not going to have a horrible Helena substitute, and have Tina falling for good-ol Grace. Enough of this, I need caffeine for I am a sleepy slacker. Well written!

    12. Great chapter and don’t let anyone rush you. Your story is yours and yours alone. I love everything you write! I have to go now. I have to walk my dogs before they go and try to find a new owner who will spend more time with them and less on this web site.

    13. Hey Barrie, hang in there. A few of us have been in Bette’s shoes…keep your heart in the right place and doing the next right thing and it’s bound to work out for you. Jwet, excellent as always…can’t you just feel Bette’s longing. I think you write longing better than anyone else on our site.

    14. I think it’s wise of Bette (and of you) to hold back…She wants to go at Tina’s pace to be ensure that she doesn’t “railroad” the unfolding of their newfound relationship. Still, it is heartwrenching-to say the least-having to watch Bette struggle with her emotions and desire for T…Blah, blah, blah…how I do go on sometimes… *blushing*… Sorry, I just love this story!!

    15. I could really feel this story. Being so close to those you love yet so far away.. this must be breaking Bette’s heart. She has such revealing eyes. I’m surprised Tina does not see it.. thanks for the quick update.

    16. Bette is there for Tina plus a bonus she is with the baby. Dont rush thing, I just believe that Tina will make the first move. Then Bette will need to take baby steps and let Tina do the giant steps. thanks

    17. I really, really like your in-kind labor donation idea. I wish corporations would do it more. What a gift it would be for people who work in the real world to teach their up-to-date skills to those who are trying to reconstruct their lives! Tina is doing some good work!
I wish she had more time for Anna. I think the solution is for Bette to move back home and be with her family full time. I’m waiting for the day when Bette will feel confident enough to propose this solution to Tina and move back home.
      Thanks for a thoughtful chapter.
