Previously:
‘So you’re giving me the next few months to make you fall in love with me again?’
‘No Bette, I’m still in love with you, we have the next few months to try to rebuild the trust we’ve lost. But the first thing, the most important thing to me right now, is to make sure we can at least give our daughter two parents who can be in the same room without creating tension. If we can’t find our way back to each other I hope we can at least reach a common ground that will allow us to give her a loving family. I never want her to feel torn between the two of us.’
‘I’ll agree to anything you want as long as you give me another chance. Not that I’m in any position to make requests, but there are a few things I’d like.’
‘Such as?’
‘I’d like to make some changes to the way we have our finances set up so things are less one sided. That way you won’t have to worry about any of this if it does become necessary.’
‘All right, we’ll sit down in the next few weeks and decide what to do.’
‘If you want I’ll sign the papers and you can hold onto them until then.’
‘No, I don’t want these papers as a reminder even for a few weeks. If we are going to try to start over I want it to be a clean start.’
‘What happens now?’
Chapter Two
‘We have to make some decisions about living arrangements and finances’
‘T, I’m sorry, it’s getting late, you must be tired. Have you eaten? Let me get you something.’
‘Why don’t I just fix something light for us and we can talk a little.’
Tina got up and started towards the kitchen, she opened the refrigerator and saw nothing but beer.
‘Bette, what have you been eating?’
‘Take out, mostly.’
‘You mean when you eat. Have you been drinking a lot? I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have said that.’
‘It’s okay, I’ll go pick up whatever you want.’
‘Why don’t you just order something for us, you know what I like.’
