She remembers seeing the endless amounts of pictures from tabloids and magazine covers of her mother and father while she was pregnant, they were always seemingly caught off guard kissing or shopping and holding hands. The photos of her father kissing her mother’s pregnant belly, now seemed staged. She imagined a photographer was placed outside that shop window to capture these moments and then whisked away the second it was over.

“Are you saying that your mother slept with other men?”

“I’m saying that my mother’s warning of ‘discretion’ comes from experience. She was never entangled anything that she couldn’t slide away from but she’d fallen into bed with more than a few other directors and what have you, to get what she wanted.”

“Are you going to give it to Shane?”

That was the million dollar question right there. She had a book that was promised to her publishing company, the deadline was approaching, and she still hadn’t even given them an advanced draft of whatever it was that she was supposed to have been writing.

“I haven’t thought that far ahead yet.”

“I can’t believe you’re doing this.” Bette knew Tina better than she knew herself at times, and there was absolutely no way that Tina was going to let this get away from her.

“I haven’t done anything yet.” Tina rolled her eyes as she stood up.

“You’re going to publish this book.” Bette stated more than asked and watched as Tina’s shoulders tensed at her words.

“First of all this isn’t a book. It’s 22 pages of my life.” Tina started to get defensive.

“I know that-“

“And I’m an adult, my mother does not get to dictate what I can or cannot say. These are my experiences.”

“These?” Bette immediately questioned.

Tina looked at Bette and she knew now was the time to be honest, she was going to continue writing these memories out. “I can’t stop now.” Tina finally spoke the truth to Bette without her true justification. “It’s all right there, all I have to do-“

“What about Alice?”

“What about her?” Tina was very defensive about her little sister. There wasn’t anything that she wouldn’t do for her. Bette bringing her into the conversation had the potential to set her off.
