Bette: (seeing that Alice was not going to budge on this one she gave in) “OkOk that we can do I’ll get my mom to pick up a case that should be enough.”

Alice: (pleased with the situation and leaning back in her chair) “AwesomeI wonder if ms. Kennard will play?”

Bette didn’t say anything she just sat back and thought about the night. ‘Will she playNaw I don’t think she’s like thatshe’s a goody-goodyI hope we don’t freak her out’ Bette’s mind was a mess she stared at the clock and silently willed the time to move faster.

Tina’s week had been the exact opposite. It had been the longest 5 days of her life. Adjusting to the new school had been relatively easy she fit in effortlessly with the popular crowd and already had every boy in the school chasing after. Sitting in her 4^th period English class Tina Silently willed the clock to stop moving. She just wanted to sit there and not move or be seen, why was her life so 3^rd person, it was like she was telling the story, but not really a part of it at all. Her thoughts had transported her to another place, so as she mindlessly walked down the hall to her locker she didn’t notice the young man walking beside her trying to get her attention.

Young Man: (slightly raising his voice and tapping Tina on the arm) “Hey .wait up .what’s your nameI’m Eric.”  (He extended his hand and shifted awkwardly)

Tina: (startled out of her daydream) “Umm…HeyTina .Tina Kennard.”

Eric: (flashing a smile and putting on his best big-boy voice) “Nice to meet you Noticed you were new around herehaven’t seen you around I mean I’d love to show you around” (He fidgeted with his shoe)

Tina: (flattered by this young man’s shyness) “That’s sweetsure I’d love to.”

Eric: (instantly brightening up) “Greathow about tonight at 7?”

Tina: (remembering her plans with Bette) “Sorry no can do I’m hanging out with some girls I just metBette & AliceHow about Saturday?”

Eric: (displaying a horrified look) “Bette Bette whoPorter are you serious?”

Tina: (confused by Eric reaction to Bette’s name) “yeah Bette Porter whynot that it’s any of you business.”

Eric: (Taking a step back into his defensive stance) “Look if you wanna hang out with a bunch of carpet-munchers be my guestbut if you ask me it’s a waste of a prime piece of assfucking dykes.”

And with that he stormed off leaving Tina standing there dumbfounded. ‘Did he just say what I think her did did he call Bette a carpet-muncherdid he just call me a dyke what the fuckok Kennard pull it togetheryou look like a fool.’ Tina attempted to gather herself and make a hurried exit. When she walked outside she was relieved to see her brother waiting for her, she made her way to the car quickly and didn’t look back. The ride home was silent Tina could not quiet her brain. ‘Is Bette really gayno she can’t bewhat if she iswhat if she try’s somethingI’m not staying the nightthat’s absurdshe would never.’ Tina got out of the car and went straight to her room. She didn’t know what to do, could it be true, should she even go tonight was it worth it. “Fuck it” Tina said out loud surprising herself by her outburst, she grabbed her book bag and placed a change of clothes in it. She wasn’t going to let some asshole guy she never met scare her off. Bette seemed nice enough, and hell maybe she’d finally have some fun.
