    Heartbeat – Chapter 12

“No…not anymore, thank you." Tina reached out and gave Bette’s hand a squeeze, lingering longer than necessary before returning to the steering wheel. She smiled. Bette had taken away the nervousness she was feeling about seeing Kit. "It’s still a great album though.”

Bette agreed. The corners of her mouth lifted. "Yeah, it is a great album; one of his best. Bette started to hum along and pretty soon Tina joined in. Bette reached over and returned the gesture. “Don’t be nervous with Kit. I’ll be there with you.”

    Chapter 12

Tina took the ticket from the attendant and stepped aside to watch him drive her car to the valet parking area. Smiling, she joined Bette at the Borgata’s main entrance and brushed away the few strands of hair that escaped. Tina felt her heart rate quicken as Bette reached out to tuck the strands of hair behind her ear, her hand lingering momentarily on the side of her face and her index finger tracing her jawline.

“Let me fix that for you,” Bette said softly.

“Okay,” Tina replied, tilting her head to give Bette better access.

Bette reached out, her one cupping Tina’s face as she removed the pin from the left side of Tina’s head and watched as the blonde tresses cascaded down to Tina’s shoulder. “Actually,” she smiled, “I think I like it this way.” She stepped back and placed the pin in her purse. “Are you ready to see Kit?” Bette inquired as she searched Tina’s face for any signs of nervousness.

    “Yes,” she replied with confidence.

    “Shall we, then?”

The two made their way to the concierge. They were directed to the Music Box where Kit scheduled to perform. They detoured through the casino, noticing the rows and rows of slot machines, Black Jack tables, and spinning Roulette wheels. The followed the sign to the Music Box. Bette stepped up box office.

“Good evening. Welcome to the Music Box. How may I help you?” The woman asked.

“Hi. I’m Bette Porter. My sister Kit Porter said she was leaving two tickets for me.”

“Good evening Ms. Porter. She did leave two tickets for you. Actually, she wanted to be notified once you arrived. Can you wait a moment?”
